Okay, so here’s an admission from me. Until now, I’ve never worn a long dress (well, unless you count this one). When the maxi trend swept the nation a few years ago, I think I may have been the only one not to jump on the bandwagon and so I thought I’d missed my moment. I don’t usually tend to go to occasions where they’d be socially acceptable however with a few exciting festive and new year based events going on, I thought it was the perfect excuse to experiment.
I began scouring the inter-webs and found that (for someone with little experience with long dresses) I was pretty fussy. Eventually, the opportunity arose when Lipstick Boutique got in touch – and this little number popped up in among their collection with Jessica Wright. I immediately fell in love with the halter neckline and sequin pattern although I was a little worried as to whether it would suit me as well as it did the lovely Jess. Luckily, when it arrived – it didn’t disappoint. I will admit I’ve been swooshing round the house in it on numerous occasions. You’re never too old to play dress up!
A big thank you to the lovely Sarah Ivell for taking these (during our blogger-day-photo-sesh). As you can probably tell from the above images, I’m still getting to grips with the whole posing thing. Many were un-salavagable due to my strange legwork and hair blowing in my face. #Bloggerlife
You do have to go braless (although a strapless might work) however the bust of the dress holds everything in and so this wasn’t a problem at all. I usually hate figure hugging dresses out of fear they will reveal my stomach – but I actually think the dress creates an hourglass shape. Bonus!
I think the sequin detailing and festive red colour make this the perfect option for any fancy Christmas parties. I teamed the dress with a pair of Red Suede Wrap heels from Pretty Little Thing – and a few pieces of subtle jewellery. However all in all, I let the dress do the talking.
Jessica Wright’s range is actually really lovely (I’m usually a bit cynical of TOWIE-clothing-collabs but this one is fab) and the pieces are so well made. The Sandy Sequin Halter is £85, which for such a stunning dress, I think is really reasonable – however the collection ranges from £40 upwards.
