If you love fashion blogs and haven’t yet heard about Poppy Dinsey and WIWT.com then you’ve probably been stuck underground for the past few years, because she’s one of the most influential people on the blogosphere at the moment and her social networking site WIWT.com (What I Wore Today) is rapidly picking up new members by the minute!
This post is a little late in being published really, as I have followed Poppy Dinsey for about two years now and have tracked her journey from a little blog (well not so little really) to a huge social networking site! I personally love her quirky sense of humour which makes for easy reading, but (of course) I also love her fashion too and many of the outfits she puts together inspire me to try out new combinations.
Poppy started out her blog as a new year’s resolution, where she vowed to post an outfit online everyday for a whole year as a means of pushing herself to try out new combinations and attempt not to re-wear the same thing day in day out. Fast forward a year or so and Poppy has accumulated a large amount of followers who not only enjoy her outfit posts, but also her quirky quips. She then began working her blog into a social networking site model – whereby users can upload their outfits online on a daily basis and ‘tag’ the items they are wearing. Like Twitter you can ‘follow’ your favourite users, and if you like what they are wearing you can quite easily click and buy what they are wearing straight away – thanks to the tags! It’s a rather simple model, but it works excellently and Poppy now has a large number of members who upload their outfits on a daily basis!
One of those members is actually myself, and although I’m not organised enough to actually post EVERY DAY, I do post when I can. Other users can browse your profile, previous outfits and comment and ‘favourite’ outfits – which I have to say is quite a compliment if you were a little unsure about your outfit beforehand and want to be flattered by the comments of other lovely users!
If posting an outfit everyday isn’t quite substantial enough for you, as you like a bit of extra reading as a side course to outfit posts then you’ll be pleased to know that WIWT has it covered. The ‘blog’ section of the site covers celebrity interviews, fashion show reports and a wide variety of regular competitions which give you the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes!
WIWT is free to sign up and if you have a blog, it’s a great way to get a little extra promotion. Quite a few of my readers have found me through my WIWT account which is fantastic and similarly, I have also found several blogs that I’m addicted to through the site. Poppy and her team go through all the outfits posted on a daily basis and pick out their favourites to feature on the homepage as part of ‘Editors choice’ so this is also great promotion for fashion bloggers!
