Being able to travel or go on a weekend getaway is great, but we don’t always have that luxury. There were countless occasions where I find myself wanting to spend a weekend traveling, but can’t because there’s a Sunday event to attend or other things to do.
Fortunately, London is the perfect place to be on a Saturday. Not only does the city offer a lot of great things to do, but there are also plenty of places near London just waiting to be explored. Here are some of my top picks on things to do to have an awesome Saturday in (or near) London.
Brick Lane
Brick Lane can be pretty crowded sometimes. It is a popular spot for Londoners and visitors alike. The crowds, however, definitely don’t make this place any less interesting. There are so many things to explore in Brick Lane and it is the perfect place to be if you love art and creative things.
The main street is filled with vendors selling all the items you can think of. I discovered some very cute jewellery and accessories during previous trips to Brick Lane. You can also find designer clothing and cute fashion items to take home while exploring the area.
The market is situated behind the Truman Brewery and you can only visit it on weekends. Going there on a cool Saturday morning is a great way to kick off the weekend or your day out in London. Don’t forget to try some of the foods here too, since they are very good.
Movie Night!
Saturday evening is always a good time to have a movie night. You can pre-download some new movies or TV series on Netflix and just stay home for the whole evening. Or, you can choose to do something special.
I recently discovered a luxury cinema in Hastings with a movie-night experience to die for. It is in Sussex, about a couple of hours away by train from London. The city itself is gorgeous, so you can spend the day exploring the nearby attractions before settling in for a cool movie night in the evening.
The whole experience is even more enjoyable if you bring a partner with you. The luxury cinema offers an exclusive dining experience and other activities to try too. It is the perfect setup for a special date night.
Museum Tours
When was the last time you visit a museum in London? Or an art gallery? There are a lot – and I do mean a lot – of fantastic museums and galleries to visit and they can be the perfect way to spend a Saturday in the city. The British Museum, the National Gallery, and of course the Tower of London will certainly make your Saturday more colourful.
All of these spots are easy to reach and they are surrounded by great coffee shops and restaurants. Plan your own museum tour and you will have an amazing experience to remember. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the Open Air Theatre at the end of the day; they usually have great performances on Saturday nights.
