The majority of the week, I do absolutely nothing to my hair at all. However, once the weekends come along, or if I have a mid-week event planned, I go all out on my hair. I put hair extensions in, I apply serums, oils and heat protecting sprays galore and I attempt to create waves with my beloved GHDs. Unfortunately, the latter is where it all goes wrong.
My hair (which ironically is naturally wavy) just won’t blend in with my extensions AND stay wavy, so I usually end up getting pretty fed up and spend hours going over and over the same section of hair. The long and short of it is, it takes me two hours to do my hair for a night out. On a good day. And normally with a train to catch, this just won’t do. Luckily, I’ve recently discovered Enrapture’s Amplify Jumbo Waver which is designed specifically to create tousled looking, natural waves – and they have made my life a hell of a lot easier.
Upon first opening my Jumbo Waver’s, which were packaged beautifully in a gorgeous purple box, I was initially a little shocked at just how ‘jumbo’ they really are. They look a little daunting and large, however after taking them out the package and releasing the safety clasp, you realize that they aren’t that large at all – and are in fact, very light weight and easy to hold. After heating up the stylers, which was a very quick process, you simply take a section of hair and clasp it in between the two heated barrels, leave for 5 seconds and slowly move the barrels down the hair shaft, clasping and releasing until you reach the tips. The result is a very realistic (and mermaid like) wave, which completely blends your own hair and any hair pieces or extensions (bearing in mind they are 100% human hair, please don’t do what I once did and melt your synthetic bright pink hairpiece onto your GHD’s).
There is no need for curling, twisting and tangling hair with GHD’s or large stylers (even though I still love my GHD’s, these are so much better for creating waves), and if you split your hair into average sized sections, you can have party-ready hair in under 15 minutes. It really is that easy. I mean, if I can do it, anyone can. Promise! If you are a lover of volumised hair, it is worth starting right from the roots, however I started just above my neck so that the waves looked quite loose and natural.
Whilst I absolutely LOVE this tool and the effect it creates, not to mention the time it saves, I will admit that it does have one small flaw. As the styler heats the entire barrel (all the way around) there is no ‘safe’ area you can place your hands, which although seems as though I’m stating the obvious, it does take a while to get used to the fact you can’t touch anywhere on the top region of the styler. Also, please be careful when waving the lower areas of your hair, especially if you have long hair or extensions as it’s quite easy to burn yourself, I burnt myself minorly on the shoulder, but it was my own fault as I sharply turned around to look at the TV and forgot I was doing my hair – yep, the stylers are that easy to use that you forget you are using them! However, if this is the only bad thing I can say about them, then that’s pretty good!
Overall, I absolutely love the stylers. They do the job, in about an eighth of the time it takes me normally and they are far easier to use than fiddling about with straighteners and tongs. Their lightweight design means they are easy to hold, so you can ‘wave’ at any angle and they are priced very reasonably considering the quality of the product itself. The polished titanium plates ensure your hair won’t get caught or snagged whilst you are creating the desired style and the deep ‘S’ wave means that unlike other barreled wavers, you won’t look like you’ve ‘crimped’ your hair (although, who doesn’t love crimping?), instead it creates natural looking waves that even Kim Kardashian would be envious of!
The Jumbo Wavers are available from Debenhams, Argos and other reliable high street retailers. Priced at £75.
* These stylers were given to me free of charge by Enrapture, however this does not affect my opinion on them at all, and I have provided my honest views.
