This month, I was able to interview 18 year old Harriadnie Beau who is currently the face of Pia Michi (who have previously dressed Katie Price, Le Toya Jackson and Alexandra Burke) and has modelled alongside TOWIE star Chloe Sims. I understand modelling is a tough industry to enter into with lots of criticisms and setbacks along the way, so I admire Harriadnie in continuing with her aspirations.
I asked her several questions about her experiences with modelling.
‘Getting your foot in the door’ is often the hardest bit of modelling. How did you first get into the modelling industry?
I was on the books of Sylvia Young agency @Youngen’s when I was very small, I started to do work for Magazines, and I did my first fashion shoot when I was just 14 years of age for a Magazine called ‘What Peterborough!’ with two other very experienced models, I remember thinking YES!! I’m going to be a top model hahaha! I then did my first catwalk for a Magazine, and I guess it just went on from there, I realised that I was at my best on the Catwalk.
What tips would you give to any aspiring models?
Go for it life is out there for everyone to peruse their dreams, but go forward with caution, never diet, just eat healthily, exercise, drink lots of water, never ever pay an agent to go on the their books or for work no reputable agent will ask you for money. If you need a portfolio to start you off contact your local photographer and ask for tfcd shoots (most photographers know what they are about) and last but not least remember to be a model it is not about glitz and stardom modelling is about hard work hours on your feet!
Where do you hope to be in 5 years time?
A Top Haute Couture Model
What do you love most about modelling?
I Just love getting that amazing buzz every time I walk the catwalk, I love working with wonderful designers such as Hanna Marie Hutchison HMH COUTURE her dresses a pure class high stage fashion, silk jersey and beautiful to wear – her dresses make you feel like a royal princess. I also love Rachel couture, and Ruth Tarvydas, and then of course PIA MICHI – I am the new face of Pia Michi and their breath taking range of couture dresses are to die for, I have my own collection of Pia Michi dresses I love them so much. I always say if you want to look a million dollars you can do it easily in Pia Michi!
Do you think you have to be thick-skinned in the modelling industry – have you had to pick yourself up if something negative has been said?
Yes definitely! To be a good model takes self belief and confidence as well as the ability to take criticism! You’ve also got to accept that you’re a clothes horse and the designer is the star – a designer can make or break any model.
Thankfully I don’t have to cast now [go to castings], these days I get contacted by a designer directly, and many of them know my work, how I walk and my height and size, but when I started I hated casting, I used to travel hundreds of miles, and sometimes I would be told I was too skeletal.
