Once again, this month’s GlossyBox was themed and quite relevantly featured products based around the title of ‘Sexy Summer’. When summer arrives each year, we often head frantically to the local Boots to stock up on sun creams, gradual tanners, moisturisers and bronzers – so it’s nice to have a few tasters of summer this year, without the mad dash!
Out of the products given to Glossy Box subscribers this month, I’d say that 4 out of 5 are of use to me and will be trialled over the next few weeks. I’m pleased to see that another HD Brows product was included this month (much to my delight!) and similarly, Glossy Box also included another of their exclusive products – this time in the form of a natural haired make-up brush.
BM Beauty Summer Warmth Bronzer
Although I absolutely love the effect this bronzer has on your skin (it really does provide a warm summer glow) the only criticism I have to make is that the small sample size makes it really difficult (and messy) to apply. Normally bronzers come in much wider more spacious pots or palettes, so that you can apply the necessary amount to your brush whilst also wiping away excess powder. However, despite this the colour of this bronzer is amazing and it provides you with a really healthy olive-y glow without the danger of looking orange, or as though you have a bruise on your face (we’ve all been there!).
Green People, Sun Lotion with Tan Accelerator
I can’t yet vouch for the tan accelerator as unfortunately we haven’t yet been blessed with tanning weather, however I am off to Florida soon (and since it’s the perfect size for travelling) I will be sure to pop it in my suitcase to try when I’m there. What I can tell you however is that it smells absolutely amazing despite it being fragrance and alcohol free. It contains the wonderfully natural ingredients of Green Tea and Aloe Vera, which together create a really fresh, light scent that isn’t overpowering.
HD Brows Precision Tweezers
I was delighted to see yet another HD Brows product in the Glossy Box this month (as although some of you may be getting sick of seeing the sleek black packaging) it is fast becoming one of my favourite brands. Every single product they create seems to be faultless and I have literally used my HD Brows palette to death! The precision tweezers are no different and despite normally only using my beloved pink Tweezermans, I have definitely been swayed towards using these instead. Not only are they usefully angled, so that you can easily shape and maintain your brows, but they are also very good at pulling out hairs and gripping them quickly and efficiently (so you aren’t left vigorously trying to pull out hairs).
GlossyBox Serie Exclusiv Pro Beauty Brush
Once again, Glossy Box have sneakily added in their own product to the box. However, I’m delighted that they have done so, as this brush is really useful and despite the tiny container the bronzer came in, I was able to apply the BM Beauty product softly and smoothly. Made with natural hair, the brush isn’t rough on skin (like many brushes) and sleekly applies make-up without distributing it unevenly. At £15, I personally would consider it a little pricey for just one brush, however if you are looking for a super-soft application brush which aids you in applying make-up evenly, then it might be worth giving it a try!
DermaBlend Ultra Corrective Foundation Cream Stick
I wasn’t really impressed with this product, especially as the sample came in the form of a starter kit which contains ten different shades in tiny plastic slots. I understand that distributing hundreds of Corrective Cream Sticks would be quite pricey (as each full size version is £19), however I don’t think applying Foundation Cream with your fingers in a fiddly plastic slot is the same as applying it on with a stick, so I don’t really feel the sample gives a clear representation of what the product is like. Saying that however, I did have a little go with the nude shade (which probably best matches my skin tone) and it does provide pretty thick, water resistant coverage that hides away any irregular lumps and bumps. I have a red rash on my face at the moment (not sure why, but I think my skin might be allergic to something I’m using) however, it completely covered up the rash and turned my skin back to its normal form, which is promising.
Overall, I think this month’s Sexy Summer Glossy Box definitely did provide subscribers with some summer ready products; however I felt that the sample size packaging could be improved a little. Similarly, although the Ultra Corrective Foundation is really effective (and does contain SPF 30), I’m not entirely sure if it’s suited to ‘summer’ exactly, as many young girls tend to go out without thick foundation on during the summer months, in order to let the skin breathe and re-hydrate. What do you think?
