When it comes to fashion I opt for high street over high end. Not only due to the cost associated with the latter but also because I find high street more wearable in terms of every day usage. While I own a few more ‘expensive’ items, they are only in my possession because I’ve either been given them by a family member, friend or gifted them.
However, in terms of beauty buys – my mantra is very different. Drug store beauty is a firm favourite on my dressing table but when it comes to personal preference, I buy high end. Not that my bank balance prefers this option, but my skin definitely does! My foundation of choice is Dior Nude (review here) and my favourite bronzer is Rouge Bunny Rouge. So, when I was offered the chance to review a couple of items from the Feel Unique sale, automatically my eyes were drawn to my guilty pleasure.
First up was the DIORSKIN Nude Rose Powder, which features in the same range as my foundation but is a luminous rose loose powder to set and wear over the top of your normal make-up. Promising to refine skin and enhance a fresh complexion, it is ideal if you fancy a ‘lighter’ make-up day but are in need of a boost, or simply want to achieve that dewy look that is so highly coveted.
Presented beautifully in a silver and glass pot, the powder comes with a very pretty fluffy puff to dab the product onto your skin, smoothing and softening it as it goes. If I had to be super critical, I’d say that the way in which you loosen the powder ready for ‘puffing’ is slightly tricky, at least initially – and resulting in me shaking it frantically – upside down – so that the product could trickle through.
Powder can sometimes tend to set itself in the creases and lines on your skin, but this glides superbly over the top, leaving you with a fresh, beautiful looking complexion. The smell – although not a vital component to anything you’re putting onto your face necessary – is absolutely divine, a mix of parma violets and talcum powder. At £33.50 a pop, it’s not exactly cheap – but if you’re looking for a luxurious treat, you certainly won’t be disappointed with this.
Second – and last – on the designer treats list was something I have been lusting after for a long time – partially due to its gorgeous packaging. Guerlain, like Dior, is known for their high end, luxury collections – but their Meteorites Powder Pearls blusher is especially renowned. Again, with a scent reminiscent of Parma Violets, it is a dressing table staple at its very best.
Claiming to be the first and only product to use ‘stardust’ technology, the powder ensures that more light is reflected off your skin – creating a gorgeous, silky and healthy glow.
“The signature corrective shades of GUERLAIN Météorites Blossom Collection: Météorites Pearls even out the complexion, with mauve to catch the light, pink for youthful glow and yellow to illuminate and counter redness.”
