I’m living in a rented flat at the moment, so it’s a little harder to tailor my surroundings to my specific taste however as it’s the first time I’ve ever had an entire ‘home’ to make my own – I’ve really enjoyed finding quirky decorations, lamps and cushions to jazz the place up. Since moving out, I’ve found that I actually enjoy shopping for home-wear more than I do beauty and clothing items, who knew?
Although I’ve been here nearly a month now, I haven’t had the time to get it looking very ‘finished’ so when Dunelm got in touch and asked if I’d like to select a few pieces, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity (or excuse) to make things look a little more polished and feature my handiwork so far on my blog. It might not be to everyone’s taste but I’m really happy with how things are looking at the moment!
Dunelm’s is one of my favourites for bedding and home-wear, as they offer some really gorgeous yet affordable pieces. I could quite easily spend a whole afternoon scouring the aisles and debating whether I need yet another heart shaped wooden chopping board (I concluded I probably did, so purchased it) – however in a bid to narrow it down and bypass the time, I chose a couple of items from their online site.
Since your home is supposed to be your sanctuary, I like weaving in items that make me feel calm or relaxed. Home accents that make me feel happy when I look at them. And although I do love the clean, white, minimalist feel that many interiors sport – a mix of darker colours, golds and woods are my go-to’s.
I absolutely love elephants and so when I spotted these adorable kissing elephants on the site, I pictured them straight away sitting pretty on my windowsill. They didn’t disappoint. They’re rather heavy – a sign of great quality – and look really expensive, but in actual fact – they’re a rather bargain £6.99 for the pair!
My ‘S’ lamp was something I’d been looking to purchase for ages, but all the ones I’d seen were well past the £50 mark and regardless of how fancy I wanted my living room to look – there was no way I’d be spending that much on a glorified table light. I actually blogged here about where this was from and how much it was, as well as including some clearer pictures.
In keeping with the ‘safari in my living room’ look that I seem to have opted for, I also chose this gorgeous gold giraffe to stand next to the television. Sitting on top of the woven basket, he has taken to his new role of guarding the room quite well…
Dunelm have some fab bits, so if you’re looking to jazz up a room in your house – or perhaps even ‘Christmas-ify’ your home as the festive season draws closer, I’d definitely head on over to their site for a quick browse (although I warn you, it may turn into more of a four-hour basket-filling extravaganza).
What do you think of my home accents? Have you got any tips for making a rented property look more like your home without doing any re-decorating?
