I know my blog isn’t an ‘official beauty blog’, although to be honest it doesn’t really fit into a certain category. However I thought I would show you what I keep in my makeup bag, as I often enjoy reading similiar posts. I suppose different makeup works in slightly different ways according to who the wearer is, but its interesting to see what products are being used over and over again by other bloggers (and are therefore well used and trusted). I don’t tend to wear a lot of makeup, however – these are the products that I use everyday.
Face
I don’t use a lot of foundation on my face, however if I am going to apply makeup then I think it’s important to start off with a good base. After moustrising, I use Benefit’s some kind of gorgeous foundation faker to smooth out any redness and spots. I then use a small helping of Dior Nude Hydrating Foundation (in 021) to give a nice coverage. I think it works better if you apply your foundation with a foundation brush, as it not only means you don’t get the dreaded ‘foundation hands’ but it also gives more even coverage. A lot of places charge ridiculous prices for a basic foundation brush, however you can get it on amazon quite cheaply and it works just as well.
Brows
Before discovering HD brows, I used a brown eyeshadow to colour in my eyebrows. I have quite light eyebrows and although I don’t want them to be completely dark, I think they are the frame to your face and should therefore be defined. I use the angled brush included in the HD brows kit to define my eyebrows (with a brown sand colour) and then use an eyeshadow brush to blend it in (as I don’t like REALLY REALLY dark looking drawn on eyebrows).
Eyes
I don’t really use a lot of eyeshadow, unless I’m going for a really dramatic effect however I do line my eyes with a black kohl eyeliner and then apply lots of mascara. I find that Max Factor’s False Lash Effect mascara is the best for volume, length and colour. Some people use several different mascaras to get the ‘perfect’ volume, length and colour – but I don’t spend a lot of time on my makeup in the mornings – so to have one mascara that does all three is perfect.
Blush
I use a blusher/bronzer because I don’t really have a desired effect for my cheeks. As long as I don’t look washed out (which is what happens if you just apply foundation and nothing else) then I’m happy. At the moment I use Benefit’s Dallas blusher/bronzer which has quite a neutral pink effect, with a touch of rimmel blusher.
Lips
As boring as I might sound, I don’t really use a lot of colour on my lips. Occasionally I will wear a red or dark plum lipstick, however it is too much effort to re-apply them at regular intervals throughout the day so I just use Vaseline. I’ve discovered a new limited edition Creme Brulee Vaseline, which smells lovely and keeps your lips hydrated!
So, that’s what’s in my makeup bag. I do, of course wear and try out other makeup brands from time to time and I love experimenting with new makeup – however these are my everyday essentials! What products do you keep in your makeup bag?
