The beauty blogging industry is certainly a rather saturated one, with hundreds of thousands of sites giving their opinion on the latest beauty buy but that hasn’t stopped Victoria from InTheFrow making an impact in the community, capturing a wealth of readers with her down to earth and charming personality, stylish attire and gorgeous pastel coloured hair. I have been a huge fan of Victoria’s blog for just over a year now, tuning in for well written, witty and intelligent comments on beauty products and lifestyle content, so I thought I’d pop a few questions over to her for a short (but sweet) interview:
Why did you initially start blogging?
I got hooked when I found a a beauty blog one day. I had no idea that people wrote about the products they were loving, so it blew my mind and I immediately wanted to get involved.
How did you come up with the name inthefrow?
My tumblr name used to be ‘Im in the front row with popcorn’ which are lyrics from a favourte Alanis Morissette song called Front Row. I wanted to keep them consistent whilst also making it fashion focused, so I shortened it to Front Row and then shortened it again to Inthefrow
Did you tell your family and friends about your blog straight away? What do they think about your blog?
I told my flat-mate straight away as I was with her when I was pondering over whether to start writing or not, and other friends I started to tell after a few weeks. It was months until I shared it with facebook ‘friends’ though, as people who arent as close to me, I felt they wouldnt quite get it the same.
Working with a number of my favourite brands has been a dream come true!
Many bloggers give weight to the statement that once you join the blogging community, you soon make friends for life. Have you discovered this to be true? Can you call some of your closest friends people you’ve met through blogging – or do you keep blogging and ‘real life’ separate?
Yeaa definitely. I’ve met some awesome people in the last two years who I keep in contact with weekly. There are so many lovely bloggers out there who really want to make friends in the community too, so everyone is bound to find a best blogger buddy.
Has there been one specific highlight you could pinpoint along your blogging journey? Perhaps a specific event or opportunity you’ve been given as a result?
Yes definitely, winning two Company Magazine blog awards has been the absolute highlight, but then working with a number of my favourite brands has been a dream come true.
Have you ever had any blogging ‘lowlights’ or anything you’ve struggled with since starting your blog? How have you overcome it?
Now and again I get some pretty nasty comments on my Instagram feed or youtube videos which are off putting, but generally I just delete them and move on. Most of those people have had a bad day and want to bring you down with them. I decided a while ago I wouldnt let that happen.
If you had to choose three beauty items you couldn’t ever live without, what would they be?
I would definitely say Carmex, Regen Cream and Nars Sheer Glow. They are all must haves for me.
You are so lucky in the sense you really do suit every possible hair colour. I love your purple shade now and your pastel candy floss pink. How do you decide when to change colours – and how do you keep your hair in great condition despite changing colours?
Oh thank you! I use a lot of awesome hair products to be honest. Amazing brands that sell treatments and strong conditioners that really give your hair its life back. I generally just go with how Im feeling at the time, and at the moment Im just loving purples. Im already planning my next colour though so keep your eye out 🙂
Do you find it hard to strike a balance between sharing parts of your life – and keeping other parts private?
Yes I guess so. Its hard to write lifestyle posts without indulging lots about your family and home life, but I do try to keep the more private aspects private.
What is one thing about yourself that you think your followers would be surprised to know?
A lot of people are surprised when I say Im 25, or a fashion retail lecturer, as they dont see how a girl with purple hair can have a job in education, hah! But otherwise, I dont know really, Ive shared most other facts about me already so the cats out of the bag I think.
If you weren’t blogging, what would you be doing now?
I would be spending far more time on my actual work, probably planning new ideas that I could role out over the year.
You’ve recently been on an amazing trip around the West Coast of America. Are there any highlights of the trip you’d like to share?
Oh gosh it was amazing. Visiting Utah and Arches National Park is a huge highlight, as it Yosemite and Monument Valley. San Francisco is also one my favourite ever citys and a total must see.
