I know that I have quite a few readers who are mums and although most of my content is directed at girls of all ages, this post is more tailored towards those who have young children around (or those who simply love nail polish!). Although I am not a mother myself, I have a younger sister (who turns five next week) so I can somewhat sympathise and relate.
If you have little girls (or boys – as they love experimenting with make-up too!) then you will know what it is like when you’re putting on make-up and are joined by a small person who also wants to be involved. Similarly, when I am painting my nails my sister tends to drop whatever she is doing and sidle over to try and ‘experiment’ with the polish too. Nail polish, although harmless to little nails themselves can include ingredients which are toxic if consumed/wiped in eyes/sniffed excessively so I often have to refuse my sister a ‘manicure’ much to her dismay.
Little BU (can’t believe I’ve never come across them before) have created a wonderful range of nail polishes for ‘sweetly sophisticated little girls’ who want to accessorise with colour. Created by New York expert Patricia Dente-Haimes, the range is non-toxic, odour free and does not include any harmful chemicals. Patricia based the range on the ever evolving NY trend for ‘mini manis and pedis’ for little girls, which are suitable for little nails. They won’t upset skin, won’t be harmful if consumed (or bitten) and can also be easily washed out of clothes/sofas/rugs/bedspreads/wherever spilt – which let’s face it is great considering little girls haven’t quite yet mastered that nail polish is only supposed to go on the nail!
Founder, Patricia Dente-Haimes says, “Girls love to play with their mummy’s polishes, so Little BU provides a safe, non-toxic, wash-off alternative for little ladies who just want to have fun and express themselves with colour”.
Rather usefully, the polish can also be washed off with water (if one coat has been applied) or sealed for longer wear using two coats and a sealing top coat. Considering many schools don’t allow nail polish to be worn, it can be washed away easily on a Sunday evening – worry and stress free!
If you are reading this thinking ‘it all sounds fantastic, but I don’t have children’ then fear not – as Little BU can also be worn by adults. The colours are not outlandish and childlike but are in fact very sophisticated and perfect for summer wear! ‘Kyra’ is a very lovely shimmering silver, whereas Olivia is a bright blue which is ideal for the on trend ‘bright polish’ look. My favourite colour is probably ‘Cecilia’, which is a lovely glittery pastel pink – perfect for girlie girls!
Although created for little girls, the range is definitely worth looking into if you are a nail polish fanatic, especially if you enjoy changing the colour on a regular basis. The polishes are so easy to wash off, that it makes sense to chop and change colours and experiment. The polish dries very quickly and leaves you with a very glossy, ‘pearlized’ effect which I love.
The Little BU range can be purchased from Harrods, Prim, Tillie Spa & Nail Lounge or www.iluvlittlebu.com. Polishes are priced at £9.95 each (9ml bottles).
