‘Volumize’, ‘Protect’ and ‘Moisturize’ are my three hair based commandments, or ‘aims’ and I am regularly trialing new products which claim to fulfill my aims and usually disappoint. However, recently I had the pleasure of trying out several milk_shake products, a brand I’d never previously heard about – but after googling, discovered just how highly raved about they are already.
milk_shake active yoghurt mask
With ‘milkshake’ featuring in the name of the brand itself, it is no surprise that several of the products are ‘milk inspired’, so I couldn’t wait to see what the yoghurt hair mask consisted of. With a scent reminiscent of strawberries and cream (but not too sickly sweet, it’s just right) and a smooth creamy texture, this mask is best applied after shampooing and conditioning, and left to soak in for 3-5 minutes. I usually find that using a hair mask is no different to using conditioner (and leaving it in a little longer), however I take this statement back completely, as this mask was utterly amazing and left my hair in the best condition it’s been in ages. Those ‘yoghurt amino acid’ and ‘avocado oil’ ingredients really do make this product a winner, and I have been using this religiously for the past two weeks. If your hair is feeling dry, de-hydrated and a little flyaway, I would definitely recommend you give this product a try. Even my cynical self was proved wrong! (£12.55)
milk_shake volume solution conditioner
I was a little disappointed to find out that not all of the milk_shake products smell as unique and amazing as the yoghurt mask (this conditioner has more of a generic fresh scent) however the effects this product had on my hair more than made up for this. Claiming to boost the volume of your hair at the roots and provide weightless body, this conditioner feels really light upon application – and really feels as though it is thoroughly cleansing your hair. It removes any horrid greasy oils from your roots (and any leftover product build up), and leaves you with gorgeous, silky soft hair. I did find that my hair looked much more volumized, and had a lot more body – particularly at the roots and at the fringe, which is where I was aiming for, so I was really pleased by the results. If you have a lack of body to your locks, I think this is a product to consider as it does the job, and has an affordable price tag too. (£11.40)
milk_shake sun & more argan oil
Whilst many of the argan oil based products that I own tend to make my hair appear greasy, rather than shiny and sticky, rather than nourished, this product is an anomalee, it actually works and leaves your hair in a much better condition, without any side issues. You simply apply a small amount to the tips and the middle sections of your hair, gently rubbing in the oil and setting hair into place. With its anti-aging ingredients, this is a great product to have if you’re jetting off somewhere hot (and exotic) this summer, as it products hair (especially coloured or bleached) from the sun’s harmful rays. I wish I could say I was heading off somewhere exciting this summer (I’m not) but I’m most definitely going to be using this over the summer months – it’s a life saver on a bad hair day. (£13.80)
