On the 6th July I was invited to an exclusive showcase of MYO Fashion’s pre-fall collection at Aura nightclub in Mayfair. Having worked with MYO earlier in the year I was thrilled to be a part of their big night. As the glam-factor was high, I knew I needed an outfit that would match the atmosphere. Cue Catherine Fuller – in-house stylist for Wish Want Wear!
You know that ‘favourite dress’ you have that has pride of place in your wardrobe or dressing room? You know, the one that will always get you through a party or a night out? Well mine happens to be hanging in someone else’s dressing room, about 30 miles from here in a wardrobe bursting at the seams with designer treats. Wish Want Wear very generously let me borrow the Was it Worth the Wait Kate Dress by David Meister – my all-time favourite and perfect for the evening of “glamour and goodies” that we were promised. At a hire price of £65, I’ve paid £130 to wear a designer dress on two occasions. Seeing as it retails for £500 – I think that’s the definition of a good deal. I could hire it two more times and still not even be close to hitting that scary retail price.
MYO stayed true to form and provided us with an evening of total glamour. Bloggers and guests were given a private seating area and we hadn’t sat down for five minutes before we were being showered in delicious canapés. Actor and presenter Jonathan Pach kicked off the night by introducing the first act; Aiesha India who absolutely killed it and set expectations high for the rest of the performers.

The actual fashion show was split into displays of 6 dresses at a time, sandwiched in-between various dance and music acts that had the crowd buzzing in their seats. Among them were street-dance act Give Into Dance, free-styler and semi-pro footballer Colin Nell and RnB singer Honey B. All acts were fantastic and really made the night one to remember.

One performer didn’t particularly hit the spot though. He called himself the Perverted Poet so you can probably guess what his act is all about. I’m sure he’d go down a treat anywhere else (maybe a stag ‘do?) but telling elderly sex jokes to a room full of fashionistas probably wasn’t his finest moment. Having said that, the awkward giggles induced by his inappropriate commentary meant that it wasn’t completely terrible! I personally would have preferred another dance or music act.
Familiar faces among the crowd included Leanne Jarvis and Moni Tivony from The Voice UK, Sugarbabe and all-round cool chick Amelle Berrabah, and singer Stacey Jackson. The VIPs were given champagne and a private viewing area but were so chilled and down to earth. Leanne and I shared a brief convo in front of the mirror while re-applying some lippie and she seemed totally lovely.
MYO’s pre-fall collection stayed true to the brand’s ‘party girl’ soul. Bodycon styles lead the way, closely followed by dresses with full chiffon skirts and sequin-embellished bodices. Designs ranged from all-out cartoon prints to simple colour blocking. Bandeau styles were covered in sequins and embellishments while one stand-out piece featured vibrant pink ombre fringing. My personal favourites included a floor-skimming coral maxi with a cinched-in waist and a cut-out cobalt blue maxi with a sheer skirt.
On the riskier front, we were shown multi-coloured spike-studded bralets paired with wet-look leggings and heels! Not a look I’d go for but if you’re 18 and have a body like Mila Kunis then why not?! My +1 and bestie Laila (pictured below) highlighted the dangers of wearing a weapon on your chest if you’re headed for first date territory and we agreed it’s one best kept for clubbing!
As the complimentary cocktails stopped flowing and Aura prepped for their normal Saturday club night, Moni Tivony closed the show by performing the iconic No Woman No Cry. He is an electric live performer and managed to encourage the entire room to sing along with him! With the crowd off their seats dancing and singing to Moni’s soulful set, the night came to a pretty awesome close.
Like any anticipated launch party, MYO’s show included an array of goodie bags for the guests. Inside our bags there was a pair of MYO’s signature printed leggings, a one-shoulder sequin-embellished party dress, various accessories, tanning lotion, a 15% discount at Shimmer Hair Studio, earrings from a bespoke jewellery range exclusively available at MYO and a skincare sample from Dr Bragi – claiming to be the best product I’ll ever use on my skin!
I’d just like to say a huge thank you to Usman at MYO Fashion for the invitation and again to Wish Want Wear for the designer dress. WWW are currently advertising a holiday shop edit so if you fancy wearing M Missoni in Mauritius or sass & bide in Spain then get hiring!
As launch parties go, MYO Fashion really delivered a memorable evening, it’s certainly one I’ll remember for a long time.
