When it comes to summer make up, less is definitely best. However many of us aren’t quite brave enough to go completely bare faced – especially in those early days when we don’t have a good tan!
So here’s a quick guide on how to achieve a natural look for those warm sunny days, while keeping skin protected from the sun:
- Apply moisturising SPF
You should be applying a low SPF cream to your face every day before putting on makeup to ensure your skin is protected at all times. The sun’s rays are damaging, even in winter, so by rubbing in moisturiser with SPF you should stay safe as well as keeping skin feeling smooth and soft.

- Swap foundation for tinted moisturiser
Instead of layering on a base colour, use a tinted moisturiser instead. It covers up blemishes but also allows the skin’s natural pigmentations and freckles to show through, to ensure your skin looks dewy but natural.

- Dab on concealer
If there are some blemishes on your skin that the tinted moisturiser didn’t hide then simply dab some concealer on these, as well as under your eyes, to hide dark circles and to achieve an even complexion.

- Sweep on the bronzer
To give your skin that subtle sun-kissed look, use a large brush and swipe some bronzer on your cheekbones, nose, chin and forehead.

- Give your brows some love
Your brows still need some attention, even when attempting a natural make up look. Brush them into a neat shape with a brow brush and then highlight them simply with some brown, powder eye shadow – an eyebrow pencil is a little harsh for a natural look.

- Enhance your eyes
For your eyes keep it simple with a light shimmer of nude eye shadow applied over your lids, then apply a lighter colour shadow in the corner of your eyes to make them pop and appear larger. Finish off with a couple of coats of lash lengthening mascara.

- Finish it off
Complete this natural look by applying some moisturising lipstick that complements your dewy and bronzed skin perfectly. Nude lipstick is apparently outselling the classic red these days as more and more women prefer to achieve a polished but natural look for every day, so get down to the shops quickly.
