People always say I wear black too much, especially in winter. I try to mix it up in spring and summer with some whites, pale colours and, of course, pink. Not only to avoid eyes rolling and “Black, again??” comments but for the sake of my fashion blog; because, really, what’s the point of having a fashion blog with followers if you keep wearing the same thing. Predictable is boring. But honestly, I don’t think there’s a better colour than black and I admit to being an “addict”. It’s always the easiest, chicest option – and is the most slimming colour, too! Any piece of clothing I find (if it’s not already black), I always think how much better it would be if there was a black alternative. This beautiful lace top comes in black and purple; it’s from NEXT and I fell in love with the black option – wore it for another day working as an intern at the Next Press Office.
There is something very seductive but also elegant about black lace; it is also easy to wear and is so feminine. You would think lace is more of an evening fabric but this top allows for a casual but also sexy daytime look that is appropriate for after-work drinks at night, too. Got the top in a UK size 12 so it falls loose (nothing worse than a skimpy lace top during the day – gives an impression that you’re going out in your “going out” clothes!) and it’s just the right amount of see-through; a simple black bra does the trick, there’s really no need for a tee underneath.
Styled it in total black with my favourite wax-coated skinnies – which, by the way, I’ve worn and washed so much, the coating is actually completely gone! Trying to find a replacement but these were just the perfect fit and length and I just can’t get rid of them until I find the perfect replacement pair. I’m petite and, as you already know, I love a bit of bare ankle; that cropped length that Isabel Marant does is ideal but, unfortunately, she’s so uber-boho, she doesn’t do any skinny jeans in black. Anyone have any suggestions?
Finished off the black with some metallic pink dollies to add a pop to the look along with my huge Céline in tan and a swipe of that orange matte lipstick that I’m totally obsessed with right now. I said last week I thought it would look fantastic with black and there is something about lace, specifically, that makes it look even better. Keeping the accessories simple again; just a couple of simple gold, band rings and my almost-permanent bracelets.
Now that my hair is shorter, I’ve realised that I’ve let got of my classic loose curls that I’ve been doing for years and actually prefer my hair poker straight to show off the cut and length. No more of those impossible top-knots either; it’s so easy to just put my hair up and out of my eyes now. And now that I’ve gotten rid of my super long hair, I think it’s time to go even shorter…love it!
