Playing up florals in the latest outfit post. Walking around today, I can tell springtime is nearly here with bright yellow daffodils in full bloom all over parks and sidewalks; and although I love floral scents and perfumes, as well as beautiful hydrangeas, cyclamens and hyacinths, the floral print has never been a favourite of mine. I prefer a more delicate take on florals which is not quite as overloaded and charged up with florals as the usual printed dresses and trousers for Spring. It keeps it cooler. As a minimalist, I prefer a more spaced-out print with less saturated colours and looser shapes to break away from the super bright and feminine floral look.
Like this structured top from Zara, for example. I love its oversized bomber shape and silky texture. It falls in such a way that it feels lightweight and lets the skin breathe. The floral prints are beautiful, I love the soft violet and green colours against pastel yellow. It’s already baggy but I’ve worn it over my favourite baggy leather trousers from Acne (ever since I “borrowed” them from my Mum, I’ve worn them to death!) Put on my comfy Isabel Marant ankle boots for a day out walking in Chelsea and wrapped my fur stole around my neck to keep warm (I’m actually getting sick: sore throat, runny nose – not attractive but, oh well, fashion comes first, although not sure how great an idea that is!) Got my trusty felt hat which has saved me on so many occasions from rain as I am always, always ‘sans’ umbrella, despite having lived in London for three years and well aware of the unpredictable weather and frequent rain. Keeping jewellery to a minimum with just my favourite every-day essentials: watch, mini rings and delicate bracelet and necklace that I never take off.
Now that Spring is well on its way and flowers are blossoming, it’s time to bring out our Spring/Summer wardrobe and start playing up colours and more pink! I can’t wait to do an all-pastel look as well as tackling the whole boho ‘fringed’ look on bags or coats. My favourite trend from the Spring/Summer 2014 collections is probably androgynous minimalism; not surprising, I know, but I’m looking forward to layering white and beige in total-monochrome looks and wearing a soft-coloured coat or scarf – all oversized, of course. Totally loving the sporty accessories too; Prada’s thick-soled sporty shoes worn with knee-high ribbed socks are divine and, although it’s so unlike me and I couldn’t ever imagine me saying this, I am loving those Birkenstock-style sandals as seen at Acne and Jil Sander! Easy, cool and effortless. I saw a pair at Cos today – black in soft leather bands that cut across the foot – I fell in love! Maybe will make a trip back there soon…
