I love red; from coral to scarlet to burgundy, red hues pop against any skin colour and can instantly add a little “character” to any look. I love a bright red coat for gloomy winter days or red silk slacks in the springtime. Even more so in summer – hot shorts in orange/red or coral-coloured dresses look fantastic against tan skin and are super easy to wear. Having said that, I admit that most of the red I wear is limited to handbags, shoes and lipstick, only. I find it very difficult to actually wear red and combine it cleverly. Aside from that, I can’t combine a red sweater easily and, although I love these waxed skinnies in wine red, I have only managed to wear them a few times and usually with black.
This week, I decided to challenge myself and try to style these burgundy skinnies in a new way. Taking inspiration from the colours in my wardrobe (but leaving out black!) I opted for this cropped, cream-coloured sweater with cutout hole detailing that I haven’t worn in a while. It’s always interesting to rediscover items in your wardrobe. To keep the palette of colours in the same family, I added a pair of leopard-print heels (love the red heel!) and, of course, my camel-coloured Céline. Natural make-up is essential so as not to be over-styled. Just a touch of black eyeliner and some nude lipstick is perfect. In terms of jewellery, I’ve kept it simple and played around with band rings in yellow gold. Not too many stacked rings or bracelets. Maybe it’s because I’m always working on shoots and handling clothes but I prefer fine rings like my ‘oui’ Dior and simple band rings. Less is always more.
Totally by chance but I ended up shooting this outfit in the stairwell of my building – kind of like how my outfit fits the colours of the staircase and steps!
How have you all been? I’m almost done with Uni for the year so absolutely swamped with work. But – only a few weeks till I’m in Greece, lying on some gorgeous sandy beach, sizzling in a bikini and drinking a chocolate milkshake! What are your plans for the summer holidays?
