In the very heart of Notting Hill lies Savana Urban Spa, an oasis of relaxation in among the hustle and bustle of the capital. Situated between picturesque pastel coloured houses, it is frequented by locals and even hosts a private dentistry practice – among a number of treatment rooms. With chic white wash walls and candles galore, I headed there last month for a morning of pampering. Ah, sometimes I love my job!
Although the spa offers a number of cosmetic treatments, such as laser hair removal, skin contouring and weight loss inch loss, I was going to be indulging in a gel manicure, a luxury pedicure and a full body relaxation massage. After changing into my robe and kindly being handed a green tea – we began with the pedicure, whiling away the time chatting to the lovely therapist. Despite being light, bright and airy – the room felt very cosy and I was made to feel right at home, rather than awkward (which is often how you feel in spas – a bit out of place). I chose a dark red colour to pop onto my (rather insignificant) toenails and swivelled over to the nail bar.
I asked for a Gel French Manicure, as I have quite chunky hands and so tend to find this elongates them a bit – however it can be rather tricky to get right (as often it can look quite ‘fake’). The result was exactly what I was looking for – natural and understated but with just the right amount of white on the tip to look clean and polished.
As if I couldn’t have felt relaxed enough, next on the agenda was a full body massage – which I was a little apprehensive about (as I’ve had a bad experience in the past with another spa, see here for the rather hilarious story) however the therapist put me at complete ease. Of course, you can opt for a really relaxing massage – with little pressure, however having been working at a desk solidly (even into the night) for the past couple of months, I wanted to see if she could ease the knots in my muscles (without me screaming in pain). Somehow, she managed to work out the tension and provide a really relaxing massage, so relaxing in fact – that I may have fallen asleep halfway through. Well, that’s always a good sign I suppose!
It was a bit of a shame to put my clothes back on and return to reality, but the lovely ladies at Urban Spa gave me a goodie bag filled with skincare samples to ease me back into the real world gently. I had the most wonderful morning, was pampering from head to toe (quite literally) and felt more relaxed than I had in weeks, stepping out a new woman. Sometimes it’s important to take some time out for you – and get pampered. If you’re in the market to do so, I’d definitely recommend a look in here.
Have you been to a spa recently? Or do you have any plans to?
