It’s been a rocky road for the cast of Made In Chelsea, who suffered various bad reviews at the start of the series however I feel they have risen above harsh words in a very dignified manner, meaning they have earned loyal viewers (including myself!) and have been commissioned a second series. I’m glad to say that I will be watching the second series and the persistent natures of the cast members, adamant that bad reviews would change as the series continued has left us with a brand new television must! I’ve decided to put together this post about my final verdict concerning each of the cast members, please feel free to leave a comment should you agree or disagree – I love a variety of opinions!
DISCLAIMER – the image used is not my own and I do not take take for it!
Caggie Dunlop:
Although she was my favourite at the start of the series, and in some form or another the main female protagonist I’ve changed my opinion on her much more. I didn’t like her attitude towards Funda Onal, she appeared very childish and bitchy when doing the typical girl thing and rolling her eyes and smirking when Funda mentioned something about her then boyfriend Spencer. She also had a weird, smug smirk on her face every time Funda spoke to her – which came across to me like she was either terribly embarrassed to be speaking to the girl who has the man she wants, or that she thinks she is far too good to worry about what Funda has to say. Despite this however, I think she handled the situation perfectly when Spencer was attempting to woo her in Cannes – she noted that it wasn’t the right time to enter into a relationship with him and made him wait! So he should. Caggie is the best looking female in the cast and I think she knows it – perhaps using it to her advantage, but fair enough – if you’ve got it, flaunt it. But maybe not in front of Spencer…
Millie Mackintosh:
After getting over the unflattering camera angles incident, I think I’ve warmed to Millie as she is ditzy, flirtatious and a typical girl. I love it when she told everyone about Spencer’s attempt at romantic language ‘when I see you, I crumble’ as it not only put out Spencer’s cringe worthy flattery techniques but also embarrassed Caggie, unintentionally of course. I think Millie always look impeccably dressed and she certainly makes the best of herself! It’s a shame Hugo considered her second best with regards to the Hugo, Millie, Rosie love triangle, as personally I think Millie was much more genuinely interested and Rosie was in it to play games. When Hugo and Millie began ‘dating’ officially, her immediate concern was for Rosie (‘her friend’) who we actually know was a friend set up by the show, so it was nice for her to have concern over Rose. However I’m very pleased for her and I think they make a lovely couple.
Ollie Locke:
I find Ollie hilarious to watch, yet at the same time cringe worthy and fake. However, he adds charisma to the show and dropped an ‘unexpected’ bombshell on the viewers and his poor ex girlfriend Gabriella. Despite having claimed being bi-sexual however, he has announced on Twitter that he has a girlfriend – confusing followers as he stated ‘Having a wonderful day at Salon Prive.. Looking at all the cars with my best friends and my amazing girlfriend.. X’ (sic). Already? Poor Gabs. I did enjoy his facial expressions when being asked about potentially cutting his hair to join Elite Models, when the agent said ‘perhaps [cut it] a little like mine’ Ollie raised his eyebrows up and down very dramatically, in typical Ollie Locke style, before proceeding to show off his ‘rather large’ ears. I personally think Ollie should keep his hair – you shouldn’t ever let people change you to fit into a certain mould – and I’m sure Ollie won’t back down. If Fredrik can keep his wild frizz than I’m sure poor Ollie can keep his much more tame, glossy locks!
Spencer Matthews
EW! I don’t really have a good word to say about the man as I think he has been shown as a very ungentle-manly, jealous and selfish person who leads on girls purely for his own attention and pleasure. In a bid to win over Caggie’s attentions he proceeded to dump his poor, beautiful girlfriend (who he doesn’t deserve anyway) fly out Caggie to Cannes and tell her ‘when I see you I crumble’. However after returning home without ‘even a kiss’, he realised that Caggie hadn’t yet pounced on him and so reverted to plan B? He is now dating Topshop Tycoon Phillip Green’s daughter and seemed to have swiftly moved on from both Caggie and Funda. Learn how to treat a woman before moving onto the next victim!
Amber Atherton
I have to say, I thought that Amber came across very blunt and false whilst appearing on the show. I read in a magazine that she only agreed to participate as a marketing strategy for her jewellery website ‘My Flash Trash’ and appears constantly making phone calls and shoving others aside. If she agreed to participate in the show, I think she should at least attempt to show SOME form of personality – without subtly promoting her business. However, she did appear a loyal friend to Rosie and there were some great scenes of her letting poor Hugo down. Didn’t stop him moving on however!
Hugo Taylor
At first I found Hugo’s sleazy ways fairly charming, however as the series progressed I just found him more and more cringe worthy – even supporting Spencer’s cruel treatment to Funda. He then let down Millie, was turned down by Rosie and so went for the second option – Millie again! Although I’m sure his intentions are good, he didn’t do himself any favours by appearing so desperate in a bid for a girlfriend! However, I have warmed to him and am really pleased for him and Millie!
Gabriella Ellis
I have really warmed to Gabriella throughout the series, as you could really see her reactions were genuine and her love for Ollie. I cried too when Ollie broke up with her, simply because she opened up her heart to both the cameras and Ollie, didn’t hide her feelings and in return earnt herself a lot of understanding fans (including me!). Having spoken to Gabriella on Twitter, you can tell she really has time for her admirers (which is more than you can say for some of the cast). It’s also great for marketing her singer career, which I really hope for her sake – takes off in the UK as much as in has in Greece, where she earnt herself a number 1. I really think Gabriella is a down to earth girl who has let others see her at her most painful points – cut her some slack! I think she’s great!
Funda Onal
I think Funda is a very dignified, independent person who could have used the situation with Spencer to earn a sympathy vote and cry constantly; instead she put the toad in his place and wished him luck as he attempted to win over Caggie’s affections. I also thought that she always made an effort for the cameras, which really and truly – the show is all about. I hope the next boyfriend she has treats her a whole lot better than Spencer did, and well done to her for pursuing her aspirations to become a dancer (in her path inspiring others to do so also). You can catch Funda on a couple of adverts at the moment – see if you can spot them!
Fredik Ferrier
He’s good looking and he knows it – of course, he’s a model! However he REALLY needs to cut his hair, as I’ve seen pictures of him with his hair tied back and it’s a whole lot better. He came across very gentlemanly on the show, using the shows main events to showcase his many talents including boating, jousting, singing and playing the piano. Fair play to him – if it doesn’t earn himself a girlfriend, I don’t know what will.
Francis Boulle
I love Francis, I think he is hilarious and despite his obvious intelligence he seems to be lacking in common sense – bragging to other girls that he shares his PA with his best friend – getting confused and in a kerfuffle when the girl in question is let on. Despite this, I think he is really funny and quirky and a great addition to the overall show.
Rosie Fortscue
I didn’t feel an ounce of sympathy when she re-confessed her feelings to Hugo as I don’t feel she ever pursued them enough in the first place. However, I did love it when she took her dog for a therapy session, appearing confused when it turned into a personal conversation. Dog therapy sounds like a silly idea, but it’s those kinds of memorable things we love to see on a scripted reality programme like this – just as Vajazzles made The Only Way Is Essex.
Cheska and ‘Binky’
I think they are great as the ‘giggly girlie duo’ who support Ollie in humorous conversations, debating whether or not fish lay eggs from their mouths or whether Charles Dickens wrote ‘Winnie the Pooh’ – he didn’t by the way, in case you didn’t know! They are very funny and make appearances whenever trusty friends Ollie or Gabriella are upset. Cheska also has a really great blog – girl about town! If you haven’t read it yet, have a look!
