As someone who very easily gives up on resolutions, caves in on a diet (using one of my many excuses, see here) and breaks good habits, I am very surprised I’ve made it to day three. So far, my skin is looking much less blotchy and far less irritated, which is a positive sign. Strangely, I’ve developed this weird ‘indecisive’ skin type, where my skin is super dry in the morning, before applying my foundation and then halfway through the day, my t-zone and chin become really oily, whilst my cheeks start becoming dry again. Oh, please make up your mind skin, it would make choosing products sooo much easier!
On today’s agenda is:
Elemis Fresh Skin Mattifying Moisturiser
I actually got this free with this month’s Glamour magazine, but I thought I’d include it anyway as it’s worth a try. Elemis as a brand is one I’ve actually never tried before, although I’ve heard great things about it, so when better to start than during skincare week! Since my skin is very dry normally, the word ‘mattifying’ didn’t quite reassure me that this would be my ideal product, however I thought I would apply it before foundation to see if it helped create the perfect base. The cream itself is very soft and has a gorgeous citrus-y scent (in fact, it smells almost identical to lemon drizzle cake) and upon rubbing into skin, it (strangely) seems to shrink your pores and leave a really smooth base. I would exactly describe it as ‘matte’ but my skin certainly looked much less shiny and after applying foundation, my face didn’t do the usual ‘shiny/dry’ thing, it actually stayed put. My make-up didn’t slide off, or flake off (ew), it just quite simply, stayed put. I’m really impressed!

Murad Soothing Gel Cleanser
Murad is a high end brand, which inevitably means it has a high price tag, but I actually really love their products and tend to trust them when they bring out new items. The ingredients are not harsh on your skin, and as a US brand, they tend to develop their products with SPF in mind. Being the lazy girl I am, I gave this cleanser a go whilst I still had my make-up on, hoping it would remove my make-up and cleanse my skin. Unfortunately, I don’t think the product is quite meant for this as it didn’t do a great job at removing my foundation (it just cleansed over the top of it) but after removing my make-up, I gave it another go. With a refreshing, soothing gel base, this cleanser is perfect for waking you up every morning and for soothing any dry skin areas before applying your make-up. I didn’t notice the redness reduce on my face after using it, but it certainly cleansed, hydrated and soothed my skin, which is something I look for in a facial cleanser.

Fade Out White Protecting Day Cream
The Fade Out range has been specially developed for uneven skin, or skin that is over pigmented as a result of pregnancy, the birth control pill or other hormonal factors. It claims to brighten and even your skintone in just four weeks, and even reduce the appearance of freckles and sun spots. I will say, that since I’ve only been trying it for just under a week – I can’t talk for the ‘4 week’ claim just yet, but it certainly has made a difference with regards to the red, blotchy patches on my face. It’s really soft on skin, and does tingle a little upon initial application, but within a few minutes, the cream has sunk in and you are left with a gorgeous smooth base, with far less red patches than usual. The scent of the product is quite soapy, a little like aqueous cream if you’ve ever come across that, but it certainly does the job and I’m going to continue using it to see if the 4 week claim lives up to it’s name!
