Summer is the season when our lip hues turn from plum to pink or from orange to red, matching our new more brightly coloured wardrobe. I always find the task of packing which holiday lipsticks to take rather mammoth like, especially if you’re only able to take hand luggage, so in celebration of holiday season – I’ve decided to have a big clear out of my lipsticks – leaving myself with a few summery essentials.
And this is the lot it has boiled down too.
Smooch Popping Pink
Smooch has always been a go-to brand for me with regards to lipsticks, as they always have just the right texture (matte, but glossy enough to last several hours) and I never fail to find a shade I love. I had a few Smooch shades in the running for this post, but the Popping Pink has to be my all time favourite. It has slight yellowy undertones, which means that it looks great with an olive-y tan and it’s really easy to wear, as it’s summery but not too vibrant or loud.
Yves Rocher Rose Eclantant
The Yves Rocher range is another favourite of mine (and you might notice as you scroll down that three of their lovely lipsticks have made it into my final seven), as they have a really creamy, silky texture that is unique to the brand. Favoured by Parisian’s (Em and I went to the Yves Rocher store whilst in Paris and it was amazing), the collection is elegant and classy, but still perfect for summer. I love this shade for both the beach and the evening as despite it’s vibrancy, it’s actually quite natural looking and subtle. The mix of orange and pink undertones in the rose shade mean that again, it’s very flattering with a tan – but I also think it would look great on paler skin-tones too.
Soap & Glory Super Nude
This is a really interesting shade actually and ideal if you want something usual to add to your summer look. I can only really describe it as a mix between a burnt orange and a nude, which together creates a kind of dark, olivey colour that I was surprised I really liked. It applies with a creamy lipgloss type texture, but dries matte so its lasting power is great! If you catch it in the right light, there are several different shimmery gold and pink pigments that really give it a little boost. Definitely a must try if you’re looking for something a little different!
Sleek Amped
Not only is this summer-holiday ideal travel sized, but it’s also probably the most adventurous and vibrant I’ve ever been with a lipstick! Although on the bright side of pink, it’s not as sickly or ‘young girl playing with her mothers make-up’ as say a bubblegum pink would look. I’m not sure exactly when I’d wear this shade (I may pack it on holiday as it’s tiny anyway) but it is a really summery colour and with orange undertones – is flattering with a holiday glow!
Laura Mercier Creme Coral
It wasn’t until I actually tried this lipstick on that I found I liked it, as it’s quite a dark, bronzed colour in comparison to the other shades. However, with orange and red undertones – the dark pink and nude base is really natural and flattering to wear on holiday and would be perfect for by the beach cocktails (oh I can dream) or dinner in the evening. The lipstick itself is very creamy and stays this way unless you put a sealer on, which means it hydrates and moisturizes your lips like a gloss, however it does mean (unfortunately) that a few bites of dinner or a few sips of your drink start to take it’s toll on the colour. As long as you keep it tucked away in your clutch or your beach bag, you should be fine!
Yves Rocher Beige Chaleureux
Another creamy textured Yves Rocher to add to the collection – although this time in a much darker, more coffee coloured shade. Acting as a great nude option for darker coloured or tanned skintones, I personally really love this one and have been wearing it as a natural colour for the past few days. The orange undertones come out under harsh sunlight (as you can see from the images) but in the evening, it’s a much more nudey, darker shade that goes with everything!
Yves Rocher Rouge Gourmand
Oh yes, another Yves Rocher (they really are amazing!) and this time it’s a rosy red! With definite pink and orange undertones running through it, it is a great option for summer – especially if you love experimenting with bold make-up in the evenings. It’s quite a subtle red, rather than a statement lip (which is better for summer really) and is most certainly going into my holiday make-up bag!
