If you are anything like me and hate feeling weighed down by heavy foundations, especially during the summer months – then this article is for you, as I have included what I think are the top five summer ready foundations!
There are plenty of tinted moisturisers available to buy, which are ideal for summer wear as they still allow you to tan whilst wearing them (unless they have a high SPF ingredient) however, I prefer a little more coverage then a tinted moisturiser offers. Obviously, I don’t pack on the foundation when sunbathing or by the pool, but when dressing up for evening meals I prefer not to be sporting a blotchy red (perhaps sun burnt) face so opt for a lighter foundation with a little more coverage.
Dior Skin Nude
Although I wore this foundation throughout winter, it is ideal for summer wear too as it isn’t heavy on the skin and gives a really natural looking result. It is described as a hydrating foundation and certainly lives up to this claim, as it really nourishes skin and provides it with added moisture. During the summer months, when your skin can be feeling a little dry from sun exposure, this hydrating element can be a life saver! The Dior Skin is probably the most expensive foundation I own (at £30 a bottle) however, it is definitely the most luxurious and if you have the money to spend, why not treat yourself. Personally, I feel there are other foundations that live up to Dior’s standards – however I would definitely recommend this product for summer wear if you suffer quite badly from dry skin. It’s not a ‘sensitive skin’ product, however I have never had any problems when using it, so it should be fine for all skin types. I have previously reviewed Dior Skin on my blog, so you can read the full review here.
Some Kind-a Gorgeous Benefit Foundation Faker
I haven’t used my Benefit Foundation Faker in several months, simply because it is more of a light wearing natural foundation. One thing I will say is this product is ideal if you have very oily or greasy skin, but not so great if you have dry skin – as the creamy powder will only highlight dry areas and create unsightly patches. However, it is great for eliminating shine and providing light matte results. It is fabulous for summer wear because it doesn’t clog up your pores and is so natural you hardly notice it’s there. The fresh scent (reminiscent of talcum powder) that the product has also makes it a really natural and summer ready product.
Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
I absolutely love Rimmel’s brand new foundation, which is ideal for summer as it doubles up as a sun-cream (has SPF 15 included) and also gives you a lovely radiant glow. I have been meaning to review it for absolutely ages, as I’ve been wearing it throughout the last few months however I haven’t got round to it so far! The claims on the bottle state that the foundation has an ‘anti-fatigue’ effect and gives you a ‘radiant glow’, unfortunately I can only vouch for the latter. I’m not entirely sure what an ‘anti-fatigue’ effect means as I don’t think ANY foundation can make you immediately bursting with energy however it is quite refreshing and it has got quite a pungent scent. It’s great for hydrating the skin, as it is bursting with vitamins however be careful not to apply too much or go overboard as you can be left with quite a shiny face. I have this foundation in True Ivory (103) but still find it a little too dark for my skin, I personally wouldn’t recommend you go any darker than True Ivory (if you have a similar skin-tone to me) as it has quite orange-y undertones. I’d say that this foundation is probably the heaviest feeling out of the five I’ve chosen to trial, however as it is fairly thick – you only need a five pence piece splodge to cover your face.
Avon Flawless Invisible Coverage Foundation
Although some of Avon’s products can be a little hit and miss, I really love the Ideal Flawless foundation because it is really light wearing but also very luxurious. It is extremely soft upon application and within fifteen minutes, you completely forget its there altogether. I own this product in several different colours (as I have tested out different colours each time I’ve bought it) however I’d say that the Natural Beige tone is probably the closest colour to my natural skin-tone. It has quite olive-y undertones rather than orange, so if you are going away on a long holiday where you are likely to tan quite significantly, it might be worth investing in one shade darker.
W7’s Fantastic Matte Foundation
This is probably my favourite spring/summer foundation at the moment because it is so light wearing but provides the right amount of coverage for me. It doesn’t clog up your pores or feel really heavy on your skin but more so just reduces shine and evens out your skin-tone so that you are left with a really natural looking result. During the summer months, I often summer from quite dried out skin and the Fantastic Matte gives just the right amount of moisture to keep dry skin at bay but not over-hydrating it so it looks greasy.
