After months of staying at home, now that restrictions have lifted slightly, the word ‘getaway’ is on everyone’s lips. But actually ‘getting away’ and what that consists of is a very personal decision and for many people, there’s a sense of unease about stepping onto a plane and heading abroad just yet. Plus, with many restaurants & hotels having had to shut their doors for months, many of us are keen to support the economy and getaway, UK style. So to celebrate, I wanted to put together a list of my top five favourite UK destinations, as well as some outfit ideas too…
Because while Ibiza, Mexico, Barbados & Miami might be off the cards for a little bit, you can still put together your very best outfit for Edinburgh, Bath & Bournemouth!
Bath
One of my favourite UK cities – Bath offers beautiful buildings, delicious food, a world-famous spa with a hot spring heated pool & an abundance of things to do. You can read my ultimate guide to Bath here, which details where to stay, what to do & where to eat.
Outfit: jeans & a nice top. With your swimsuit underneath so you can squeeze in a visit to the spa! And rather than splashing out on a new outfit, head to Ebloggers instead to browse their gorgeous selection of preloved tops, dresses, shoes, skirts & bags. You can secure some fabulous finds at discounted prices, plus a percentage from each sale supports one of their chosen charities. I also donate preloved items from my wardrobe, you can shop my collection.
Bournemouth
My University town has one of the best beaches in the UK – but if you’re worried about it being busy, worry not – there’s plenty of beaches to go around. Nearby Poole or Sandbanks also offer gorgeous white sandy beaches and plenty of coastal accommodation options. Our most recent visit was at Christmas (which you can read about here), so I haven’t got many photos of the sun-soaked beaches to show you but I can highly recommend a visit!
Outfit: a gingham sundress & denim jacket. *Think* picnic on the beach outfit! Shop New In.
Edinburgh
Another one of my favourite cities, Edinburgh is an incredible place for great food, stunning views, beautiful walks & an abundance of shops! I wrote this post several years ago on how to spend just 48 hours in the city. We’ve previously stayed at both a self-catering accommodation option & a hotel, so there’s plenty of choice depending on what you prefer!
Outfit: a cropped tee & silky maxi skirt, with a leather jacket (it can get a little chilly when you visit the castle!).
Bristol
I visited Bristol last summer and had a fabulous time eating my way through the city (a firm favourite is brunch at The Florist, the poached eggs are delicious and the floral ceiling is a must-see). Plus, the zoo is a fabulous addition to the to-do list for all the family!
Outfit: a fabulous polka-dot or floral jumpsuit.
Aldeburgh
A change of scenery can be a breath of fresh air, quite literally and for us Aldeburgh is the perfect escape to getaway and press pause. We stayed at The Brudenell, a beautifully quaint hotel that offers sea-views and a great location for a gentle stroll through the winding streets, with plenty of ice-cream stops! Plus, the Sea Spice restaurant, offering South Indian cuisine remains to be one of our favourite restaurants of all time.
Outfit: denim shorts & a puffed sleeve top. Beach chic!
Wherever you choose to go this summer, take care & stay safe! x
