It’s the most wonderful time of the year… and also the most expensive! But after last year’s ‘will we, won’t we?’ Christmas – I think we’re all appreciating the fact that time with family and friends is the biggest gift of all. Soppy, I know!
However it wouldn’t be Christmas without a few presents under the tree, so as annual tradition dictates – I’ve put together my ‘Ultimate Christmas Gift Guide’ to provide plenty of festive inspiration. Langham Blanc De Blancs Sparkling Wine – This delicious English sparkling wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grown on the 12 hectare Crowthorne vineyard in Dorset. Expert noses may be able to detect gala apple and poached pear with floral notes of apple blossom and honey suckle. However personally, I found it to be a really drinkable, creamy sparkling wine that is perfect on its own or with food!
Borgo Antico Prosecco – Borgo Antico is a family owned winery in the hills of Conegliano Veneto and this particular variety represents the highest classification of Italian sparkling wine. All the grapes are hand picked on the winery’s own vineyards, where they avoid herbicides & minimise the use of chemical products. Bottled in Treviso, Italy, this is a fabulous fruity prosecco – making for an ideal Christmas Day drink – or gift!
Luxlo Passion Fruit – This sugar-free spirit is ideal for gin-lovers, while offering a lower calorie, lower alcohol and vegan-friendly option! Individually distilled, this premium botanical drink can be enjoyed with a mixer of your choice (I recommend lemonade or sparkling water) or in a fruity cocktail! Although I love the passion fruit flavour most, there’s also a blood orange, original (Ginny); and pomegranate & raspberry!
Aloha 65 – Aloha is a small British start up brand offering 100% natural and vegan fun, versatile spirits. The idea behind the brand was born in a U.S. surf bar as a gift to the après-sea crowd, and as a result – it works brilliantly in a number of delicious serves for winter and summer! I could attempt to describe it, however I feel as though Aloha’s website does this perfectly already – so I’ve pasted a snippet below… “Aloha 65 is like nothing else. Limoncetta Di Sorrento – Sometimes festive drinks can get a bit sickly or sweet, however, a Limoncello Spritz is the perfect light beverage to accompany a variety of party canapés. Produced with an infusion of the zests of PGI Lemon of Sorrento, this fabulous drink transports you to Italian staples of sunshine & the sea breeze – yes please! Enjoy neat, over ice or mixed to perfection in cocktails.
Takamaka Rum – A sweet, rich spiced rum from Takamaka Bay, produced in the Seychelles! You’ll find plenty of vanilla and caramel notes here, so this is definitely one for those with a bit of a sweet tooth! My favourite combination is to mix with coconut milk, pineapple juice and lots of crushed ice! Who says you can’t Pina Colada at Christmas?
Stauning Danish Whisky – A Danish rye whisky from Stauning, this spicy spirit is produced from malted Danish rye and barley, which is entirely floor-malted at the distillery. After it has been distilled on open-fired stills, it is then matured in new American oak barrels. The folks at the distillery call it something along the lines of liquid fresh Danish rye bread, which sounds rather good to us…!
Ellustria Il Dottore Gin – The perfect gift for any fellow gin lovers! Crafted in a small family-owned distillery in Italy, Il Dottore combines generationally honed distillation methods with modern techniques to create a beautifully smooth and flavourful gin. Each limited edition bottle is labelled by hand, dipped in wax and numbered, making it truly unique and one of a kind. Did you know? Il Dottore Gin is inspired by stories of 17th Century Venice.
