Since we bought our house last year, my interest in interiors has skyrocketed. There’s something so wonderful about having a place of your very own to carve out and add personality to. I have filled my Pinterest and Instagram feeds with accounts that inspire me – and planned weekly visits to home-wear stores nearby. I’ve even bought several interior design books to help me hone in on how to plan a home. Because if there’s one thing I (and all of the interior books I’ve soaked up) can tell you, it’s that it can be difficult to bring all your ideas together cohesively to work in reality.
One thing I picked up along the way is that lighting that play a key part in bringing your ideas together and giving depth, atmosphere and personality to a room. While in our old place, we had a few lampshades and several table lamps, in our new home, we are playing around with different light fixtures, table, floor and wall lights to create something with more of a luxurious feel (I hope), without a huge price tag.
And one place that has been my absolute go-to for lighting is The Lighting Superstore, with a huge selection of ceiling lights, chandeliers, bedside table lamps and wall lights, to suit a variety of tastes and budgets. They have a mix of interior and exterior lights, with finishes in brass, chrome, nickel, gold and black. Each time I’ve started putting together a mood-board for a room, rather than searching far and wide – they are my new port of call, regardless of the style or shape I’m envisioning.
They also very clearly display the height and weight of each light fixture which is SO important when thinking about the layout of a room and the height of your ceiling (and whether you’re going to bump your head on your light fixture when walking around). Often I find on other websites I have to go searching for this information within the small print. A little detail, but nonetheless an integral one for planning!
So to celebrate, I thought I’d show you some of the new lighting fixtures in our home which were found on The Lighting Superstore. I’m so happy with how everything is looking – and I already have tonnes of new ideas for lighting in other rooms of the house.
The Pink Bedroom
Arguably the most feminine room in the house, this bedroom is an incarnation of my inner thirteen year old, with a chic, luxury twist. The wall colour we chose is a dusky pink (cinder rose) rather than a sickly sweet bubblegum shade, so we felt like we could play upon the feminine features with our accessories. We chose an accent colour of brushed brass, which extends to the photo frames (which as you can see, we are yet to put artwork into) and of course, the light fixtures.
But rather than match everything, we went for different shades of our accent colour to again, add some depth and interest. The ceiling light is the Baran 6 Semi-Flush Light Fitting with stylish spherical glass shades. Despite being extremely well priced, the finish of the light is of very high quality and I’m so pleased with how this looks.
The table lamps are also from The Lighting Superstore and look so incredibly elegant – giving the room a little bit of a boutique hotel look and feel (if I do say so myself). They are the Cross Antique Brass Table Lamp with a cream lampshade – and again, were very reasonably priced at £41 each! They come complete with a rocker switch, so there’s no fiddling about behind the bed with plug sockets once it’s all plugged in!
The Grey Bedroom
Our old house was every shade of white and grey, which is why we made a pact for our new home to be experimental with colour and texture. However, we couldn’t get by without having one room that encompassed all of our old furniture (and love of grey), so the ‘grey bedroom’ was born. Featuring our old cinema bed (which used to reside in the master bedroom) and our mirrored bedside tables, this room is still a bit of a work in progress, as we definitely need to update the rather basic ceiling lampshade.
However we are slowly getting there – and I love the addition of these gorgeous side Polished Chrome Table Lamps, also from The Lighting Superstore, which dress the room a little and give it a much cosier feel at night-time!
Do you agree that lighting makes a huge difference to the look and feel of a room? What lights are on your must-have list?
