I really struggle to find warm clothes that are both on trend and flattering. Usually one of the aspects has to give and it’s never a perfect triangle. I’m either left absolutely freezing (but Instagram ready) or like a rather misshapen orange (harking back to last winter when I decided my ‘look’ was going to feature an oversized bright tangerine boucle jacket – if I ever do that again, you have my permission to remove it yourself).
This winter, I was determined not to fall into either category and so went on the hunt for something that could potentially tick all the boxes. After ruling out any expensive Topshop numbers (I wish I could justify a few hundred pounds on a coat but my bank balance persuaded me otherwise) an email popped into my inbox just in time to save the day. Target Dry wanted to send over a coat of my choice, for me to road test and give my honest opinion on – which was one challenge I could certainly give my best shot!
After browsing their website for a long while (when it comes to coats, I like to be entirely invested in my final decision), I eventually opted for their Georgia Womens Warm Waterproof Parka in Indigo Blue. Boasting an array of very ‘warm’ sounding features, including a lightweight insulation layer and quilt lining, it sounded like my ideal solution – since it also looked rather fab!
Cut to when it arrived at my flat – and I couldn’t wait to give it a try! I picked possibly the windiest day possible and decided to take a stroll along the beach front and pier, ensuring I tested its abilities as much as humanly possible.
The first thing I noticed was how lightweight the coat is to wear. It doesn’t feel heavy or bulky, despite the cosy quilted inner layers. It did its job (keeping me nice and toasty) but it didn’t add to my exhaustion when trying to walk back up the VERY steep hill to the hotel.
I was a little unsure of the colour at first, as I didn’t know whether it would ‘go’ with many outfits however it suited my ripped black jean and crop top combo rather nicely, instead of sticking out like a sore thumb like I’d imagined.
Fit wise, there are two very handy toggles on either side of the waist, which you can pull in to ensure the coat has as much of a feminine fit as possible. It’s tailored in at all the right places – and I felt very girly wearing it, despite its practicalities.
Overall, it’s a really lovely coat – which I will be sporting for the entire season. It’s nice to whack on a layer of outerwear and be reassured that you’re not going to spend the rest of the day miserable and freezing – however it’s also lovely that it’s not too big or bulky and makes me feel confident when wearing it. It’s got a big thumbs up from me – and if you’re in the market for an affordable, well-made and most importantly WARM coat – head on over to Target Dry to see if you can pick something up that you’ll love as much as I do mine.
