It’s lovely to venture into London and do something Christmassy during the festive period, especially as the extra time off means that you’ll be able to spend it with the people you love. However, while there are SO many activities to choose from in the capital, all of them also seem to be rather pricey – meaning you end up forking out almost all of your Christmas budget on a day out (don’t even get me started on theatre tickets around this time!).
Over the last few weeks, I’d been on the lookout for something affordable (yet enjoyable) for all members of the family. A vast search meant that I finally came across the wonderful Winterville set in the grounds of Victoria Park and just a ten minute walk from Mile End station.
We headed there last week for a morning of festive fun.
Whoever is behind Winterville certainly has thought of everything when it comes to piecing together the perfect Christmassy day. Fairground rides, pantomimes, a backyard cinema (in a tent, complete with fairy lights) and street food stalls have been combined with a Moscow Circus tent, an ice skating rink and markets. You could quite easily while away a whole afternoon in their pop-up shop tent, which has an amazing array of unique gifts on offer.
Winterville closes on the 23rd December, so pop in soon if you don’t want to miss out. Entry is free, however attractions are priced separately (although entirely affordable). Food offerings start at £2 and mulled wine was around £3 (depending on the stall) – so it’s definitely not going to ruin your Christmas budget! It’s a shame it’s not open over New Years, as I can imagine it would be a lovely place to visit once the festivities die down – but you still have time off work!
Tickets to the Big Wheel were provided complimentary (as a guest of i Heart Wines) for the purposes of this review, however as always – the opinions expressed in this feature are my entirely own.
