Unfortunately for us Londoners, there are just a few days a year (okay slight exaggeration – maybe 2 weeks a year) where the sun shines enough we can deem it ‘perfect picnic weather’. Our picnic baskets and red gingham blankets (this is starting to sound like an Enid Blyton book here) lay untouched for the majority of the year. In fact, I actually own an entire picnic set (complete with matching napkins, in case you were wondering) that I’ve never used!
However, lately the sun has been shining (admittedly on and off, but still) so when the lovely ladies at Ladbrokes Casino offered to send me a Fortnum & Mason’s Hamper in celebration of their brand new Centre Court Slot game, with instructions to ‘enjoy whilst watching the tennis’, I simply couldn’t refuse. My family are huge Wimbledon fans – and since we’ve been doing quite well so far in the tennis, it calls for a reason to celebrate!
If you’ve ever received a hamper from Fortnum & Mason’s (or even if you’ve shopped their before) I am sure you can empathize with the flutter of excitement caused by a delivery from them. Packaged and parceled up like nothing I’ve ever seen before, even having the flu didn’t deter me from wanting to have a perfect picnic! Filled to the brim with pickles, jams, biscuits and chocolate – the Piccadilly Hamper has everything you need for a picturesque picnic!
So, with enough food to feed an entire army and a stop at the local shop to pick up some bread rolls, cheese and ginger beer (I’m kidding about the ginger beer – but Enid Blyton’s characters always drank it on their picnics!), we found our perfect picnic spot – a sunny patch near our local church!
With perfect weather and a bottle of English Sparkling Brut to share, we tucked into our hamper and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious goodies the hamper had to offer! I especially loved the Lemon Curd Piccadilly biscuits which really do taste like Lemon Meringue Pie (but better)!
Picnics (indoors or outdoors) are so simple to prepare, yet so strangely comforting to enjoy. There’s something about them that I love – and I really must make a habit of it!
Do you enjoy picnicking?
Thanks to Amy at Ladbrokes Casino for the amazing hamper opportunity! Hope you’re all watching Wimbledon, and enjoying the sun!
