With the Cosmo Blog nominations going on, you will probably read several similar posts to this in the next few days or you may have done so already. I’m not one to beg for your votes or plead that you nominate me, but I thought I would dedicate a post to talking about my blog, what it means to me and how much time and dedication I put into it.
Many of you already know that my blog started on the 20th May 2011 as a means of creating an online presence for myself and having an online portfolio of my written work to show to prospective employers. I am an aspiring showbiz/fashion/television journalist and understand the importance of having an online portfolio, so began posting old articles, schoolwork and essays under the name Scarlett London.
However, after I received some lovely feedback I was inspired to go a little further and write up articles on a more regular basis. I’m being completely honest when I say that I never posted for the sake of increasing my followers, nor did I ever expect I would have quite so many people as I do now reading what I’m writing (most of it doesn’t even make sense half the time ha ha!). It is such a HUGE compliment to have people reading what I write and taking the time to come back to my blog. I still can’t believe people enjoy what I’m writing and it was a massive confidence boost! Although it has been hard balancing my blog with my A Level studies, I am really proud of my blog and what it has achieved so far – so all the hard work has definitely been worth it. As silly as it sounds, my blog makes me feel really important and despite it being an extra responsibility it definitely doesn’t feel like a chore in any way shape or form.
So, I’m not begging for a nomination in the Cosmo Blog Awards but it would be really lovely to be shortlisted for the newcomer’s award. I’m not entirely sure if my blog fits into any of the other categories as I write about such a wide range of topics, however it really would be flattering to receive a nomination! I devote a lot of passion and time into my blog, and I do try to make it different to what is already out there at the moment! I like to think my blog is more of an online magazine rather than a personal blog, however I do try and incorporate my own opinion and aspects of my life into posts.
The best thing about having my blog is some of the wonderful opportunities that have spiraled from it! I have attended some amazing events, met some fantastic people and interviewed some inspirational figures. I think my favourite experience this year was the Pia Michi Party in Mayfair, whereby I was able to mingle with so many celebrities! I’ve met Amy Childs three times since the start of the year, partied with Amy Willerton and sat on the front row at Essex Fashion Week! Blogging is a fantastic platform to voice my opinion, write about what I love and give coverage to some small up and coming businesses! So thank you all for reading my blog and making these experiences possible! I promise to try and give back as much as I can and hopefully have something in the pipeline which will enable me to grant you some of these opportunities too!
So, if you do have a spare moment and enjoy reading my blog then I would love it if you could nominate me. I’m not going to stop blogging if I’m not shortlisted as I know how many other fantastic blogs are on the internet at the moment and in the grand scheme of things, I don’t really stand much of a chance! However, I do think that the newcomer’s award gives a platform to bloggers which lay relatively undiscovered. Many of the blogs I read on a regular basis don’t have a huge following, and so I have voted for each and every one of them (you can use the same email address to vote as many times as you wish) as they all deserve it!
