A few months back, I bought my very first Sex & The City boxset at a charity shop in my hometown. Never really understanding the hype, it took me a few weeks (I think I was ill in bed with nothing else to do at the time) to actually sit down and watch it. And since then, I haven’t looked back. I watch at least one episode (ahem, boxset) a week and have now watched both movies back to back several times over. It sometimes takes me a little while to realize I’m not actually in Sex & The City. I think the term is ‘obsessed’.
So when I heard that there was a Sex & The City fragrance available, I simply had to give it a go. Smelling like my favourite four Manhattan-ites is almost as good as actually being one, so with two to choose from – ‘Sunrise’ and ‘Sunset’, I finally settled on the more summery sounding of the two – Sunrise.
Created to evoke the feeling of a laid back Carrie brunch in a sun-drenched New York City cafe (usually playing host to one of the four women’s disastrous dates), the main notes of the fragrance are white peach, bergamot, mandarin oil and juicy red summer fruits. It almost sounds good enough to eat!
Once the strongest notes wear off, you are left with the light, lingering scent of Cashmere Musk, Lily of the Valley and White Cedar. Classy and elegant, yet totally Carrie!
I personally love the fragrance for summer, as it’s really light wearing, long lasting and fresh – yet not overly pungent, sickly or sweet. The perfume is light enough to wear in the day – but indulgent enough to carry you through to evening cocktails too, if required. It’s a very affordable fragrance at £22.50 for 100ml and it’s definitely set to be my staple scent this summer.
