Skincare is often so subjective and fussy that I sometimes wish a brand would take what is already a very confusing process and adopt a ‘one size fits all approach’. Great quality skincare that does the job, no major frills, no fancy words – just a reliable and refreshing range which is affordable, won’t upset skin and will keep it clear as much as hormonally possible. Step aside bogus skincare jargon, introducing B. Pure, Superdrug’s answer to a much retorted problem. And what a good one it is.
Produced by Superdrug’s own range – B is for Beautiful and consisting of a whole number of gentle, yet effective products, I decided to put them to the test by using them exclusively for seven days straight. Replacing my usual skincare routine with a brand new one was initially a little scary, as I did worry my skin might break out, or turn red with irritation – or worse (I’m a terrible worrier), but luckily my concerns were put at ease once I started using them. Free of that horrid chemical scent that many brands opt for, I was also pleased to discover that the formulas weren’t too drying on your skin – providing much need hydration, cleansing and moisture.
The packaging, following in the footsteps of the ethos, is simple, clean and pure, with a white and grey theme and easy to use flip tops. I know maintaining an aesthetically pleasing skincare range isn’t the number one priority, but this does look great on your bathroom shelf. I’m just saying.
The new skincare routine took a day or two of getting used too, but soon I was in full swing. I’d wake up in the morning and give my skin a once over with a cotton wool pad and the B.Pure Micellar water (£2.47*), no extra water required – just a quick swipe. Then after breakfast, I’d hop into the shower and use a tiny dollop of the B.Refined Exfoliating Cleanser (£2.73*), just to remove dead and dry skin cells, as well as polishing your complexion, before then using a generous amount of the gorgeously silky B.Clean Melting Gel Cleanser (£3.47*). Seemingly activated with steamy heat, this leaves your skin feeling so soft and supple – even before moisturising.
Then it’s time for the B.Ready Day Cream (£4.97*), before touching over any super dry spots (or patches that tend to go dry during the day – which can be horrible if you’re wearing foundation) with the B.Rescued Energising Balm (£5.47). For those lazy like me, the night-time routine consists of little other than a make-up wipe. Luckily the B.Quick Cleansing Wipes (£1.73) in this range are 4-in-1, cleansing, toning, moisturising and hydrating. All in one little swipe.
As you can see from the before and after photos (kind of, sorry that the lighting is different), my skin is far less irritated, red and blemish ridden after the seven day trial. I don’t have awful skin normally, but the final result is definitely more radiant, clear and healthy looking. I still have dry patches of skin on my cheeks (which is why they always look so flushed) but I’m working to counteract that with the super hydrating moisturiser. I suppose these things take time. Considering how affordable the products are, I was so surprised at just how quickly and efficiently they achieved the results I wanted.
Whilst we’re on the subject of the B is for Beautiful range, their makeup line is also worth a look in. Although I didn’t exclusively wear the range for the 7 day trial, I did use a few of the products to create a new – more formal look – for my internship this week, and was delighted at how smoothly they applied and how long they lasted. The B.Radiant Illuminating Foundation was perfect for those who prefer a slightly lighter coverage for summer, yet still want to create a healthy glow. It’s very creamy and hydrating, yet it somehow manages to stay clear of sinking into your pores and making them more noticeable. It’s everything you could want in a holiday foundation really.
The B.Flawless 16hr wear is slightly more cakey, as you’d expect from a complete coverage foundation – however it still maintains a very dewy look, which I was really impressed by. The added SPF15 leaves you reassured that you’re caring for your skin in the best way possible.
