I’m never really one to stray from what I know and love, so when the Best British Bloggers team contacted me and asked whether I would like to review ghd’s Style & Protect Gift Set, I practically leapt at the chance. Whilst I have tried and tested several other heated hair product brands, ghd have remained my favourite in terms of straightening and de-frizzing, and my two pairs of trusty ghd’s have never left my side.
The Style & Protect Gift Set contains a gorgeous ghd paddle hairbrush (I know it might seem odd to describe a hairbrush as gorgeous, but with a silky black texture, gentle bristles and a shiny gold ghd logo, there’s no other word to describe it), two sectioning clips, a smooth and straight spray and a final shine spray. Basically, you are kitted out with everything you could possibly need for straight, smooth and sleek hair, without that horrible dry/damaged ends finish.
In order to trial this gift set accurately, I wanted to use it alongside my usual haircare routine, which usually involves (I’m embarrassed to say) – pretty much nothing. Whilst I used to be addicted to straightening my hair, I very rarely do anything with it these days, and simply wash it, brush it and blow dry it. My hair is quite wavy naturally, so it definitely has a tendency to frizz (photographic evidence below) and to look quite damaged and unruly.
Although I don’t mind the natural look, it would be nice to be able to tame my hair when I want to, but without the need for any straighteners. Instead, I have been using my new ghd air Professional Hairdryer (which is amazing, review will be up soon) and the Style & Protect set.
The first attempt of using the Style & Protect set was a little disastrous, I got a little overzealous with the Final Shine Spray (who doesn’t want glossy and shiny hair, eh?) and ended up with more greasy looking hair rather than shiny, however on the second attempt, I got the hang of using both of the products and really loved the final result.
After washing and conditioning my hair, I brushed it through with the paddle brush (which is so gentle it could rival the Tangle Teaser), sectioned my hair using the two clips (in a half up, half down notion) and sprayed a small helping of the straight and smooth spray onto the bottom layer of my hair. I then blow dried the bottom section, constantly brushing through with the paddle brush. Once that section was finished, I lowered the top half and did the same all over again. Once happy with the completed look, I spritzed a very fine layer of the Final Shine spray to the roots and the ends and brushed through one final time.
As you can see from the image above, my hair is much straighter and sleeker, even without using any heat treatment! The ends don’t look as unruly, split and frizzy as they used to and there is a definite shine and glossy feel to my hair after using.
I would love to say I’m a transformed woman, but if I’m honest – I have every faith in ghd’s products, so I knew the Style & Protect Kit was going to be great before I tried it. If you struggle to achieve straight, sleek looking hair without the split/frizzy ends (this usually happens if you are a bottle blonde like me), this set is definitely worth a try. So, why not treat yourself, it is a gift set after all?
