Like most bloggers, I not only enjoy writing my own content – but also reading others. I wouldn’t necessarily say reading other blogs give me inspiration for my own content, as the blogs I tend to read are very different from my own, however they definitely give me food for thought with regards to putting outfits together and being more experimental.
It’s great to see how different bloggers put together their content and present their blog, as everyone does it slightly differently – and I think it’s about being different and unique that makes a blog so engaging. I also love bloggers who have a bit of personality in the way that they write, as it reads much more smoothly and you get an insight into the kind of person the blogger is. However, I think it’s often a little bit off-putting if bloggers put too much of their personal lives into the blog, as often not everything they say is relatable and it can read too much like a story.
I hope the blogs I’ve featured feel flattered that I love them, and not creeped out that I have included them in this post (as obviously that is the last thing I’d want). However, if you are featured here and do not wish to be, please don’t hesitate to let me know and I will remove the images/text straight away.
Lily Melrose – LLYMLRS
I first came across Lily’s blog when applying for the Look Show Blogging Competition earlier this year and although I merely stumbled upon it – I was hooked after reading just one post as Lily writes in such a fantastically witty way that you want to continue reading. Plus, her photography is always immaculate, which means that her entire blog has a very polished and stylised feel to it – which I absolutely love.
Although her blog is very popular (Lily has over 10,000 followers) – Lily sticks to her values when it comes to PR samples, and always gives a very honest opinion on everything she reviews. I respect this, as often many blogs ‘colour’ their writing and always give an extremely positive review to avoid upsetting the company. I think Lily is fantastic, and if you haven’t looked at her blog yet – you can do so by clicking here.
Laura Sutcliffe’s Blog – Passion about Fashion
I think I first stumbled across Laura’s blog after someone re-tweeted her latest post. I probably saw the words ‘fashion writer at a magazine’ and thought – ooh someone who has my dream job and then followed, but I’ve been reading her blog ever since. Not only does being a fashion writer for a magazine mean that Laura gets to go to some amazing events (which is always interesting and exclusive to read about) but she also has a very individual and friendly way of writing, which I thoroughly enjoy. Her blog is very fun, and she again – gives honest reviews on the products she has a chance to test out. You can visit Laura’s gorgeous pink blog here.
Becca – Fashion Train
Becca’s blog was one of the very first fashion blogs that I ever read, and I found myself scrolling through all her previous posts until I was back to where she started. She also has a very unique way of blogging, as she has a very distinctive style – but presents her outfits through a range of pictures and short, fun captions (although some blog posts are longer and more detailed). Due to the fact Becca’s blog has been running for quite a while you can really see the change and development in her style and taste, which is always an interesting thing to observe – and so I check Becca’s blog on a weekly basis for updates! You can visit Becca’s blog here.
Imogen’s Blog – Bubble Dreams
I discovered Imogen’s blog and YouTube channel about two months ago and have been hooked ever since. Imogen is the owner and founder of Foxy Locks – a hair extension company, and so she provides something very new to the blogger scene – as she gives first hand advice on how to style your hair using hair extensions. I think in the past three weeks I have watched all her videos and am going to try out Cheryl Cole hair and the Lauren Conrad ‘ballerina bun’ although I’m not sure it will look as great as Imogen’s. Another element I love about her blog itself is that it’s so immaculate and glamorous. To visit Imogen’s blog, click here.
Poppy’s Blog – WIWT
Although Poppy’s original blog has now been enlarged to a social networking format, whereby users can sign up and post what they are wearing today, I have been a follower of Poppy’s original blog for about a year now and I think the main reason it interested me so much is because of her sense of humour – which came across in her writing. I’m not sure I’d go as far to say that I read her blog purely for the captions she added, but it was a persuasive factor. Poppy has been recognised by several of the UK’s national papers in recent months, and has even featured on 1000 most influential people list – which is an amazing achievement. Her blog is proof that you can be original and make your blog into something more than a hobby, she is a fantastic inspiration and I wish her all the best of luck. Generally I think I love reading blogs because I love being voyeuristic. Just as I love watching reality TV and fly on the wall documentaries – I love reading blogs because it gives me an insight into someone else’s life, and blogs are a great way to express and document opinions – which again I love reading about. I think to really engage with the blogging community you have to be very active within it and not necessarily just focus on promoting your own blog – but other blogs too.
Thanks for reading, I’d love to know what your favourite blogs are – or if you have your own blog which you’d love for me to take a look at, please let me know.
