Located just steps away from Knightsbridge station, among the glitz and glamour of Chelsea (yes, it does exist almost exactly as shown on the popular E4 show) lies Neville Hair & Beauty, the secret (or not so secret) little black book contact that everyone in the ‘know’ simply refuses to give up.
A firm favourite with celebrities all over the world – who may or may not travel hundreds of miles in order to make their hair appointment, refusing to go anywhere else – it’s the ‘original pearl’ in a sea of salons and provides a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for customers looking to leave feeling a million dollars (I’m sure some of which, do quite literally)!
I was lucky enough to pop in for a blow-dry several weeks ago, just before I made my train to Ascot (post here). Not only was this really exciting and a privilege, as I rarely have my hair done – but it also enabled me an intriguing insight into the real ‘Chelsea’ lifestyle – a people watching haven for someone as nosey as me!
As soon as I stepped inside, it was clear that the salon is more popular than any website could claim to be. At just 9.30 in the morning on a weekday, the salon was completely full with clients wanting a swooshing blow-dry, colour re-vamp or a quick trim before jetting off on a luxury holiday (yes, I was earwigging). However, despite the clientele, who you might imagine to be quite intimidating and formal, the place felt welcoming and friendly, even for a little blogger like me!
I’d arrived a little earlier, hoping I could squeeze in before my 10am appointment and make my 10.50 train to Ascot. Sure enough, the friendly receptionists called down another stylist and whizzed me into a salon chair straight away – despite the place looking completely full. I had my hair washed, massaged – and cold rinsed, something that I’ve heard about but never attempted, I definitely think it contributes to the shine!
I think my stylists name was Jess, who took note of me being short of time and blow-dried my hair to perfection within the short time frame I had! I wanted subtle waves for Ascot, rather than anything too OTT – and Jess managed this even with the time restriction. I left with bouncy, soft curls which lasted all day long and even into the next day – something that can’t be said much for my hair, which seems to misbehave at any given opportunity.
Although I was only in the salon for a short while, it was obvious why this place is well loved – as I watched several clients have a colour re-vamp that I can only describe as incredible. I have my hair highlighted on a bi-annual basis (as little as possible to avoid damage) and although I’m always content with how it comes out, the transformations that were taking place in these chairs were amazing. Warm honey blondes were run through long brown hair to create a more summery feel – the final result looked so good, I almost ran over to the chair and insisted I have the same.
I even flew to Austria the two days later – and my hair was still benefitting…
If you’re looking for a salon in London, either for a complete hair re-vamp (which I’m now vying for), a trim or a blow-dry, I’d certainly recommend looking into Neville Hair & Beauty – even if you pop in for a look or a consultation. Putting your hair in someone else’s hands can be a rather daunting experience, especially if you – like me, are very specific about what you like, however they take everything on board, without making you feel like a nuisance and the results are beyond incredible!
