ORLY is famous for its professional and affordable products, housing some of the most innovative products in nail care due to its careful development of natural ingredients to ensure the best health for your nails. The new collections show the innovation in the new products to be seen this year including the new Gel FX range and the enormous variety in shades you will find.
I attended the ORLY preview for their 2013 collections at the exquisite Vanilla in London. I was greeted by friendly faces and immediately offered a drink from the range of smoothies and fruit juices that were as bright as the nail colours on show. I was then taken round each of the collections by the wonderful Anna Sacre.
The first collection I came to was the Hope and Freedom Fest which is the new spring collection from ORLY. They boast fast drying and high gloss, in a variety of pastel colours including a mint green, a grey, coral and lemon, each with a subtle shimmer. The Surreal collection due to be released in August 2013 is all about boldness in chunky glitter, a gorgeous bold turquoise, pinks and lilacs.
The Mash Up range for May 2013 is your go-to for summer. Just some of the colours included in this range are Harmonious Mess, a bright pink colour, Choreographed Chaos a bold lilac, Mayhem Mentality which is a gorgeous coral and Pretty-Ugly a baby blue colour. If the quirky names of each colour aren’t enough to entice you, the colours are sure to be irresistible. And just in case you can’t choose between them, ORLY has made mini sets, which includes a mixture of four of the colours so you can try them before deciding which one you need to stock up on! These mini sets are also perfect for your festival backpack!
If glitter is more your thing, ORLY has brought the Mega Pixel FX for August 2013. Unlike the usual routine of putting a glitter on top of your polish, which I find often turns out looking fairly childish, the Mega Pixel range comes in a variety of colours, rose, aqua, silver, black, plum and pink and as the glitter and shimmer is all part of each individual colour it blends perfectly for a glamorous look.
But the real hype from the new collections is the Gel FX products, the range is the first vitamin-infused gel manicure system. It promises to be chip-free and last for 2 weeks. May 2013 sees the launch of the Shade Shifter. It is applied over your colour as a black gel, but it fades, changing depending on whether you are hot or cold to reveal the colour or design underneath. Staying with the summer feel of the new collection, ORLY has also released a range of bright summer shades including Sea Shell, Hawaiian Punch and Orange Sorbet as well as neon colours, including Skinny Dip, Melt Your Popsicle and Glowstick all in the Gel FX range. The Gel FX also boasts a Duo-Chrome range including Pink-Blue, Rose-Bronze, Yellow-Gold and Magenta-Violet, which blend the two colours for wonderfully unique nails.
The nail colours available on the high street are priced at around £10, with the option of having mini versions for around £5, but some of the products are exclusive to the ORLY salons. If you can’t get the salon touch at home, a trip to an ORLY salon will not disappoint. I was lucky enough to have a manicure whilst I was there and I went for one of the Duo-Chrome colours as I had fallen in love with them.
In addition to the shimmer it has, the way the colour changes in the light and hints on both the shades of the colour is beautifully unique. The manicure itself was thorough, relaxing and my nails felt healthy. The ORLY manicurists also use an LED light as the infuser reacts with the LED meaning a dry nail in 30 seconds as oppose to the normal 2 minutes with a UV light. I couldn’t believe how quick it was, she rubbed her finger over my nails just seconds after she’d painted them and there was no smudging at all.
Katy Holding, the ORLY Brand Manager said, “What is so fantastic about ORLY is the range of colours and because the collections are seasonal, there is always something new!” What places ORLY ahead of so many other brands is the vitamin and mineral aspect to the products. Katy also added, “everything that touches the nail, including the primer and basecoat products is vitamin and mineral infused, so the products are built to care for the natural nail.”
I was given a beautiful, ‘everything you need’ goodie bag to take away. This included the primer, the bonder for your basecoat, a colour and a glitter, flash dry drops, cuticle oil and Polishield for the top coat, which I cannot wait to use! If you’re looking for an at-home salon feel, ORLY dedicates their time for the best in health and style for your nails.
