I often used the word ‘obsessed’ lightly. I tend to over-exaggerate. However, in this case – I’m not.
I’m being completely and utterly truthful when I say that I am obsessed with watching YouTube vlogs (or YouTubers). This is only a recent obsession, but not in a stalker-like way (I promise!). I quite often find myself watching their videos whilst eating lunch (I wish I could say whilst tucking into healthy salad, but unfortunately this would be untrue), in the morning, before I fall asleep and eating dinner. Basically, ALL the time. It’s unhealthy.
And, what is a ‘YouTuber’ you might ask? Well, someone who talks about their life, entertains and ‘Vlogs’ (video blogs) using the YouTube platform. And, there’s certainly a market for it. Many of the below have in the region of 500,000 to 1,000,000 subscribers who tune in to watch their videos.
So, since I spend a vast amount of my time on YouTube, I thought it would be rude not to share my favourites with you. I’m sure you’ll have heard of several of them before, as they do have very large followings, but you never know – you may discover a few new favourites!
Youtubing is a completely different form of blogging, a more dynamic form, something I wish I could get into myself (but frankly, my life is far too boring) – instead, I’ll live vicariously through these guys (my favourites):
Tanya Burr was where I started on YouTube, as I first spotted one of her celebrity make-up tutorials on Twitter, and after watching one – I simply had to watch the rest of the series. She uses easy to follow techniques and talks to the camera in a non-condescending way (kind of like a friend, rather than a viewer), which is very refreshing! I love how un-fazed and down to earth Tanya is too, despite her success!
Tanya’s other half – Jim, also runs a YouTube channel, where he shares hilarious anecdotes of his life, debates dilemmas and generally keeps everyone entertained. Coming from a YouTube filled family (his sisters make up the Pixi Woo channel), his videos never fail to make me chuckle.
I’m not sure whether it’s her way of putting things, or her cute nephew Spike that got me addicted to Fleur’s videos, but I absolutely love her channel (and her bride-to-be channel). She has a really fun, energetic way of approaching topics and I just love the way she makes her channel her own!
I love Em’s videos, because whilst she talks about the things I love (beauty, fashion, events, showbiz), she doesn’t take herself too seriously, and each video is edited and filmed in a really fun, light hearted (but still professional) way. I might be a little biased, because I know Em personally – but I think you should subscribe, you’ll love her!
I had the pleasure of meeting Kate at the Cosmo Blog Awards back in October, which was lovely as I am a huge fan of her channel – and she really is just as gorgeous (if not more) and just as friendly in the flesh as she appears on YouTube! With High Street Hauls, Make-Up Tips and Outfit Vlogs, if you are a fashion/beauty lover like me, then you’ll feel right at home on Kate’s channel.
As well as writing a very popular blog, UK YouTuber Zoe Sugg also runs a very successful YouTube channel, talking about issues that affect all of us girls (but in a really friendly and chatty way), sharing her latest beauty and fashion buys – in addition to participating in challenges with other vloggers. One of my favourite recent videos by Zoe, is her Florida haul, as having just come back from Florida myself (well, last summer), I can completely sympathize with her wand dilemma. Why, oh why, did I buy a wand at the Harry Potter Wizarding World (spending £29 for pleasure)? It seemed like a good idea at the time, but unable to do any real magic, it has sat on my shelf for the last few months gathering dust. Yay!
I first discovered Tyler’s Channel after watching a video he filmed with Finn and Jack Harries, and absolutely fell in love (yes, fell in love) with his quirky sense of humour, teamed with his mannerisms. He literally can tackle ANY subject (ANY) and make it entertaining, watchable and utterly hilarious.
As her name suggests, Daily Grace posts videos on YouTube – daily, and has the ability to make any dilemma, question or situating entertaining, however boring it might initially seem. One of my favourite videos of hers, if you’ve ever watched any of The Real Housewives series, is where she reenacts the final chat show (with Andy Cohen) of the RHOBH (Beverly Hills). Somehow, she manages to captures each housewives voice, mannerisms and reactions perfectly. It’s brilliant.
Just to confirm, I don’t spend all of my time on YouTube, I do lots of other things too! But I simply had to share my favourites with you, it would be rude not too.
