With over 6 million people watching her beauty tutorials each month, front row seats at London Fashion Week each season and a loyal following on social media, who track her every move, there’s no doubt about the fact that Tanya Burr is most certainly the lady of the moment.
So, when it was announced late last year that she would be launching a range of products entitled Tanya Burr Lips and Nails, designed exclusively by the YouTuber herself, I’m sure I wasn’t alone in excited anticipation. And the 30th January proved even further how much of a beauty inspiration she is, with feelunique.com experiencing its biggest surge of business EVER, even more so than Christmas, following a website crash.
Charlotte, one of the writers for scarlettlondon.com was lucky enough to snag an invitation to the official launch party, attended not only by several famous faces, but fellow YouTubers and friends Zoella, Pointless Blog, Pewdie Pie, Joe Sugg (and many more) who turned up to show their support, and managed to chat to Tanya in person. So, with all the gossip of the party covered – there was only one thing left to do, review the products!
LIPS:
I’ll be honest here and say that glosses aren’t exactly on the top of my list when it comes to my lips. We have a bit of a love, hate relationship really. I love the shiny, glossy, pristine finish they give but I find the pigments are very toned down and it wears off after a few sips of your drink. They tend to be very basic in their colouring and due to the applicator being so flimsy, you can never apply it with the precision that lipsticks enable. Nevertheless, I was excited to try Tanya’s range because as a beauty blogger, who regularly has to evolve with the ever changing world of beauty – and it’s latest innovative products, I was sure that she would be able to come up with something a little more than ‘just your average lip-gloss’.
And I was right. Far, far from being average, each of the glosses are extremely pigmented, yet easy to apply and long lasting. The best of both worlds, it leaves you with a glossy, shiny and wet look ‘red carpet’ finish, but the actual gloss itself feels very matte and secure on your lips, ensuring that it won’t be wiped away without a fight. The scent of the products are very sweet, but not overly sickly – more of a honey/candyfloss/vanilla lingering fragrance rather than an overpowering headache inducing sugary scent. The colours are primarily very neutral, with some featuring glittery additions and others letting the pigmented colour do the talking. My favourites are ‘Exotic Island’ and ‘Vampire Kiss’, both of which are perfect for ‘winter wear’, either when jazzing up a plain black outfit or simply ’rounding off’ an evening look.
01 – Exotic Island, 02 – Afternoon Tea, 03 – Lets Travel The World, 04 – Just Peachy, 05 – Chic, 06 – Aurora, 07 – Picnic In The Park, 08 – Vampire Kiss.
Although I do appreciate that I am a fan of Tanya’s and therefore was excited about the collection due to her involvement, rather than it primarily as a new ‘collection’, I am very impressed by how glamorous the glosses look once applied, and how easy it is to wear them. Of course, being a trained make-up artist, Tanya does have an eye for what looks good, and what is on trend – but I really was blown away by how gorgeous the collection is, and how credible the glosses are with regards to standing up against competitor products. With glossy, high shine yet high colour lips featuring all over the catwalk, this is certainly on trend – and affordable too at just £6.99 each.
Some of the lighter shades, like ‘Just Peachy’ and ‘Afternoon Tea’, do need a couple more coats than the brighter ones, in order to build up the glossi-ness and the colour a little more, however in general, the pigmented shade and the shine can be achieved with just one coat.
NAILS:
The pigmented colours of the nail products were equally as impressive, all featuring very bold, bright results with just one coat. I find many nail varnishes are gloopy or difficult to apply (yes, even immediately after purchasing) so I was delighted to see that each of these were very smooth, long lasting and non-fade! My favourite is the New York Night, a gorgeous glittery glamorous purple, with flecks of silver.
The packaging for the both products is very in keeping with the general feel Tanya has on her YouTube channel – girly, relaxed and fun, with a ‘Tanya Burr’ logo featuring a heart, and a chic black and clear bottle design. Considering she draws in a large audience of primarily young girls (although there are hoards of girls like me, who are in their 20’s and love watching her videos), I feel the products are very well targeted to the kind of advice she gives – easy to follow, but high quality.
Overall, I am very impressed by the collection and can’t wait to see where she takes it next. If you do get a chance to try any of the colours (and I promise, you won’t regret it), you can do so either by ordering online from feelunique.com or in store, with the entire range being stocked at Superdrug!
