I absolutely love Emily Divine’s blog, which is why I asked her to write a guest post and she kindly agreed. I think what makes Emily’s blog great is her fantastic photography, unique style and very engaging and witty writing style – so its lovely to have her on board for a guest post! If you haven’t yet looked at Emily’s blog – you can visit it here!
I started by asking Emily a few questions, mainly because I think it’s great to get a little background information about a blog before reading, as it ‘personalises’ the whole experience of a blog!
Q&A
What was your initial inspiration for setting up your blog?
I set up the blog for a mixture of reasons. First and foremost, it was after reading fashion blogs on and off for a few months I was inspired to start my own. Secondly, though, although I take on freelance styling work, most of the time I am a university student like a lot of my readers. I’m studying Adult Nursing and just a year away from being qualified and as soon as I am, I’m starting my PhD in Oncology (Cancer Care). Obviously, it’s quite a heavy career choice and my blog is a really nice outlet for all my fashion interests that otherwise I wouldn’t be able to focus on.
Who are your style inspirations?
Primarily, bloggers. There are some phenomenal style bloggers out there whose wardrobes I’m constantly lusting after. I rarely say magazines as the people in them aren’t ‘real’. They’ve spent hours in hair, make-up and wardrobe (as I learnt firsthand when I was in Elle earlier this year!) whereas bloggers are completely themselves and really put the effort in.
What tips would you give to new bloggers who are trying to increase their traffic/readership?
I get asked this question quite often and I always encourage people to be true to themselves and write a blog that you yourself would enjoy. I mean, if you don’t like what you’re writing, how will anybody else? It’s also really important to engage with the rest of the blog community through other blogs and social networking sites.
What has been your best ‘blog privilege’ to date? / What is the best benefit that you have had from running your blog?
Everyone is quick to say they don’t blog for the freebies, but I will openly say they are a nice perk! I think perhaps when high street brands have offered me vouchers to shop with or online companies let me choose a product for free! When that happens, it’s definitely a privilege and I really appreciate it!
What do you find most rewarding about running a blog?
The feedback I get. I love reading through all the comments my beautiful readers leave me, and when I get an email from someone that’s a fan of the blog, it’s really rewarding hearing what they have to say.
What do you find the most challenging/difficult thing is about running a blog?
Time is the biggest factor I’m up against. Between working on placement for my course, essay writing, scheduling blog posts and trying to attend events, I often I find myself with zero time to relax and do nothing. It’s a problem any blogger faces when they’re also at university or working full time but you do it for the love of it!
I also asked Emily to describe her style and pick a few of her favourite outfits to date!
Emily’s Style
I really couldn’t describe my style in just a handful of words. It seems to change every day depending on my mood (and weather!) so I couldn’t nail it down to one style or trend. As I’ve mentioned previously, I do love mixing and matching high street and vintage so perhaps that would be it. It’s also rare I’m not wearing a bright lip.
“I love this outfit because each item is really casual but altogether, it looks quite chic. There’s nothing I like more than a big knitted jumper in winter; it’s nice to be able to leave the house without a coat once in a while!”
“I adore the lipstick and jumper matching in this outfit, I love it when that happens. Another simple outfit set off with the lipstick!”
“This outfit is another of my recent favourites, mainly because I made this mullet skirt myself! Nothing better than a good bit of DIY”
Thank you so much to Emily who kindly agreed to write this guest post. I absolutely love the way she accessorises her outfits with her lipstick colour. Will you be taking some tips from Emily?
