I love a little challenge. Especially when it involves my two favourite things – summer and styling. So, when Miss Luxe invited me to take part in their styling challenge (along with 11 other lucky bloggers), my immediate answer was a resounding ‘yes’.
Sending each blogger the same gorgeously summery skater dress (in either red or white) and giving us three briefs to style – beach break, summer nights and BFF’s BBQ, I spent an hour or so picking out accessories for each ‘look’ before eventually managing to persuade my boyfriend to photograph me (bribing him with skinny pizzas).
After a few accessory disasters, I am actually really happy with how the three looks turned out. The red skater dress is definitely something I’d normally wear, but I hadn’t expected it to be quite so versatile – it looks lovely with flats or with heels.
Beach Break
Taking up the opportunity to include a rather beachy (well, sort of) prop, my ‘beach break’ outfit is relatively simple (beach breaks tend to be in stifling heat after all, I didn’t want to pile on the accessories) and low key, but certainly beach ready. I have teamed the Miss Luxe dress with a pair of grey sparkle FitFlops, a pair of Blue Ray Bans and a white wash denim shirt (just in case, like me – you burn your shoulders and need a cover up). I couldn’t decide whether or not I wanted to have a black belt on for this outfit, so it does a little disappearing act halfway through. It’s simple, fun and playful. Everything you want in a beach break!
BFF’s BBQ
Despite BBQ’s being a low key affair in most cases, I never miss an opportunity to wear my gorgeous sequin peep toe heels from Dune. The Miss Luxe dress itself has thin gold and silver piping weaving through it, so picking up on this – I teamed it with the gold heels and a skinny gold belt. The beige blazer is perhaps a little too hot for the humidity we have right now, but I personally feel it brings the whole outfit together and makes it look a little more casual.
Summer Nights
Summer nights abroad, with a cocktail in hand are one of the main things I look forward to every year. So I usually take a long time deliberating what I am going to wear in order to enjoy it. This outfit – again is simple, with a beach bag (with flats in, of course – because you never know when you might need them), my ‘Scarlett’ heels and a skinny black belt. The dress is quite pretty on its own, so I didn’t want to take the focus away!
I know I could have been far more interesting and added lots more accessories but if I’m completely honest – I tend to steer clear of heavy necklaces, bracelets and earrings on holiday and during the summer months as anything too fiddly, and I overheat!
